Tonight (December 15), the authorities of Khanh Hoa and Lam Dong provinces organized a rescue operation to bring more than 350 people trapped in landslides out of Khanh Le Pass.
On the same morning, a landslide occurred on National Highway 27C, passing through Khanh Le Pass in Son Thai Commune (Khanh Vinh District, Lam Dong Province), about 7km from the border of Lac Duong District (Lam Dong Province). The incident caused traffic disruption, leaving hundreds of people and dozens of vehicles stranded.
According to authorities, more than 350 people, including 13 foreign tourists, were stranded on Khanh Le Pass for nearly 12 hours due to a landslide. The government sent officials, militia, and commune police to bring water, instant noodles, and lunch boxes through the forest to help those trapped.
In Khanh Hoa, due to dangerous terrain and landslides, rescuers had to walk through the forest to reach and bring more than 50 trapped people to safety.
Present at the scene, Mr. Nguyen Tan Tuan, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, emphasized that the most important thing is to bring the trapped people, especially the elderly and children, back to town safely. Among them, a mother and child had a fever and were given medical care.
Mr. Tuan directed the local authorities to take responsibility for providing food and rest for the people to ensure their health. “Khanh Vinh District will arrange accommodation for the people. In case they want to return to Nha Trang City, they will arrange a vehicle to take them there,” Mr. Tuan said and requested relevant units to make efforts to overcome landslides and soon clear the pass.
As a locality bordering Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong province also focused on overcoming the landslide on Khanh Le pass. Many local authorities have cleared the landslide at Km59 through Son Thai commune, Khanh Hoa province.
More than 300 people on 13 passenger vans, 1 car, truck... were taken out of the landslide site and returned to Da Lat city.
Previously, the authorities in Lam Dong also approached to provide bread and drinking water to people trapped by landslides. The Traffic Police Department of Lam Dong Province mobilized vehicles to the scene, approaching the landslide sites to clear the rocks and soil, in order to soon clear National Highway 27C from Lam Dong.
After prolonged rain, many areas on Khanh Le Pass suffered serious landslides this morning. Hundreds of people in cars were trapped. Authorities are handling the debris and finding ways to provide food to the people.
