On the evening of July 30, the National Costume competition of Miss Grand Vietnam 2024 took place in Phan Thiet city, Binh Thuan province. 36 contestants, along with the winners and runners-up Luong Thuy Linh, Le Nguyen Bao Ngoc, Huynh Thi Thanh Thuy, Nguyen Le Ngoc Thao, and Bui Khanh Linh, performed more than 40 costumes from designers and students.
The competition night was divided into 4 performance groups, advised and supported by 4 designers Nguyen Minh Cong, Nguyen Viet Hung, Dang Trong Minh Chau, and Vu Lan Anh.
Many creative ideas attracted the attention of the majority of the audience. The costumes were mostly brightly colored, inspired by culture, history, folk traditions, regional characteristics, beautiful landscapes, and Vietnamese specialties.
Contestant Bui Ly Thien Huong's performance was in a costume named Trung Vuong (created by Nguyen Huy Hoang). The MC explained that the costume was inspired by the image of Trung sisters riding an elephant into battle. The author created a model of the elephant using handmade materials and attached wheels so that it could move on stage.
When Bui Ly Thien Huong performed, the organizers added an audio clip of a famous quote from another historical figure - Ba Trieu: "I want to ride the strong wind, step on the fierce waves, kill the whale in the East Sea, drive out the Wu army, reclaim the country, and free myself from slavery, but I will not bow down to be someone else's concubine."
Many viewers, when watching the livestream, discovered this unfortunate mistake. The Miss Grand Vietnam Organizing Committee also had an explanation on the contest's fanpage. ''Right during the contestant's performance, the Organizing Committee noticed the mistake in historical details. However, because the program was on air, we could not handle it immediately. After the performance, we stopped the broadcast and cut out the performance with this mistake. The Organizing Committee would like to admit its mistake and sincerely apologize to the audience. This is a profound lesson for us''.
The Organizing Committee also confirmed that during the rehearsal night on July 29, the quote by General Ba Trieu was not used in the performance. The Organizing Committee did not approve the addition of Ba Trieu's quote that the designer intended to include in the competition night on July 30. However, the technical staff mistakenly used the audio file that the Organizing Committee had not approved.
Also on the night of the competition, Miss Grand Vietnam 2023 4th runner-up Dang Hoang Tam Nhu wore the Truc Chi design again. The reigning Miss Grand Vietnam 2023 Le Hoang Phuong wore the Vu Khuc Thien Long costume again. The two costumes won the Best National Costume award at Miss Grand International 2022 and 2023.

The first 8 costumes from designer Nguyen Viet Hung were inspired by folk culture and history such as: white lotus, Dong Son bronze drum, national heroes, reenactment of blanket weaving village, Bac Lieu windmill... The contestants performed in many styles, from serious, graceful to humorous, fun, true to the spirit of the costumes.

Miss Intercontinental 2022 Le Nguyen Bao Ngoc performed the Thuy Yen design, inspired by the image of a unicorn holding a pearl. The image of a unicorn is often seen in royal architecture and has an important meaning in Vietnamese beliefs and religions.
Designer Vu Lan Anh brought images of reeds, rice plants, palm trees, coconut picking, Khmer culture... Wearing a somewhat cumbersome costume, contestant Bui Thi Anh Vuong wobbled and almost fell.

Appearing for the first time at Miss Grand Vietnam, designer Dang Trong Minh Chau searched for suitable materials to reduce bulkiness and create comfort for the design.
The costumes are inspired by rattan, bamboo paintings, gai leaf cakes, phoenixes, cranes, lions and dragons... The work Thien hac performed by Miss Vietnam 2022 runner-up Nguyen Le Ngoc Thao surprised everyone with its unique motion effect on the skirt.

Nguyen Vinh Ha Phuong had difficulty moving while wearing the Mermaid design. The large star detail on the back suddenly fell backwards, forcing the 21-year-old contestant to ask for help from the crew.
The shapes and details of the costumes from designer Nguyen Minh Cong's team were impressive. Images of Thi Mau going to the pagoda, mother Au Co, Mi Chau scattering goose feathers... were recreated by the designers during the competition night. The large dragon-shaped car designed by Thien Nhan Phi Long performed by contestant To Anh Minh collapsed on stage due to the wind.

Miss World Vietnam 2019 Luong Thuy Linh strode in a Mother of Pearl design, inspired by the traditional craft of the same name. The outfit conveyed the cultural values and talents of Vietnamese folk artisans.
The competition night was lavishly invested, with a spacious stage creating a comfortable space for the contestants to perform. The delicate combination of effects, stage lighting and music honored the splendid beauty of the national costumes.
The outdoor event caused some of the light costumes to be blown away by the wind, making it difficult for many contestants to move. However, most contestants still tried to control their bulky costumes, conveying their meaning well through their expressions and gestures on stage.
