In June, Meta held an event in Sao Paulo to launch its first AI-powered ad targeting program for businesses on the popular chat service.
Earlier this month, Brazil's National Data Protection Agency (ANPD) decided to suspend Meta's new privacy policy regarding the use of personal data to train generative AI systems in the country.
ANPD believes that Meta needs to adjust its privacy policy to remove the section regarding the processing of personal data for the purpose of training generative AI.
Generative AI is becoming a powerful tool in processing and analyzing personal data.
In a statement, Meta said it has decided to suspend these tools while it negotiates with the ANPD to resolve the agency's concerns about generative AI, aiming to continue providing transparent and safe services to users in Brazil.
