Meta Platforms is in talks to build a new data center for artificial intelligence (AI) projects at an estimated cost of more than $200 billion, The Information reported on February 25.
Meta executives have told data center developers that the company is considering building the center in states such as Louisiana, Wyoming or Texas. Company executives visited potential sites this month.
Since the launch of OpenAI's (MSFT.O) ChatGPT app in 2022, investment in AI has skyrocketed as companies across various sectors strive to integrate AI into their products and services.
However, a Meta spokesperson denied the report, saying the company's data center and capital spending plans have been announced and anything beyond that is "speculation."
Last month, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company plans to spend up to $65 billion by 2025 to expand its AI infrastructure.
For comparison, Microsoft said it plans to invest about $80 billion in fiscal 2025 to develop data centers, while retail giant Amazon said its AI spending in 2025 will be higher than the estimated $75 billion in 2024./.
