Two days after meeting her biological daughter who came to Vietnam from France to find her, Ms. Nguyen Trung Hiep (55 years old, residing in Xuyen Moc commune, Xuyen Moc district, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province) happily recounted the unexpected reunion after 27 years of separation and the family's difficult circumstances during those years.

Talking to VietNamNet reporter , Ms. Hiep said that she was born and raised in Xuyen Moc commune, Xuyen Moc district. In 1997, after going through a "marriage", she married Mr. Nguyen Van Tien (living in Hoa Hiep commune, also in Xuyen Moc district) and then gave birth to twin girls, Nguyen Thi Kim Hong and Nguyen Thi Kim Loan, in October 1998.

She said that at that time, her family was in a difficult situation, and she and her husband had to work as hired laborers, but they still did not have enough to eat. At that time, they heard that many foreign couples came to Vietnam to adopt children, so they decided to give one of the two Hong sisters up for adoption in the hope that their child would have a better life.

Then through the connection, the couple decided to let the older sister, Nguyen Thi Kim Hong, be raised by a French couple. At that time, the two children were just one month old.

“It was very painful, but at that time my husband and I were so miserable, we didn't even have enough food to eat, so we had to give our child to someone else to raise, hoping that when he returned there he would have a better and more fulfilling life,” Mrs. Hiep sadly shared.

Mrs. Hiep also said that at first, she and her husband only planned to adopt one child and raise the other, but because the French couple wanted to adopt both so that they could have a sibling in France, after some thought, they agreed.

Recalling that difficult time, Mrs. Hiep tearfully said: “As parents, who doesn’t love their children? At that time, my husband and I thought we would be separated from our children forever because it was rare for people to bring their children back to see their biological parents. But then, the hardships and sufferings were too much to bear.”

According to Mrs. Hiep, the French couple took the initiative to take photos of the moments when they met and said goodbye in Ho Chi Minh City before taking the two Hong sisters back to France. “Later, I learned about their good intentions, that they would let the children meet their biological parents when they grew up. Those are also precious souvenir photos for the children to return to Vietnam and find me,” Mrs. Hiep said.

Mrs. Hiep said that after the Hong sisters, she and her husband had another daughter in 2001. About 10 years later, her husband fell ill and died, from then on she left her husband's hometown and returned to Xuyen Moc commune to live.

"I just hope you don't hate your parents"

After 27 years of separation, on March 17, thanks to the help of Hoa Hiep Commune Police and local authorities, Nguyen Thi Kim Hong met her biological mother, Mrs. Hiep. The reunion made both mother and daughter unable to hold back their tears.

“That day, I was at home when I received a phone call from the Hoa Hiep Commune Police asking me to come to the headquarters immediately because my daughter named Hong and her relatives had returned from France to Vietnam to meet her. When I arrived, as soon as I got out of the car, I hugged my daughter. Her face was exactly like her father's, I cried and she cried too. I was so surprised and happy, I didn't think this day would come,” Mrs. Hiep happily recounted.

According to Ms. Hiep, the meeting between her and her daughter took place in a short time because that day was also the last day Ms. Hong stayed in Vietnam, but the mother and daughter had a moment to confide and share what they had experienced during the time apart.

Ms. Hong also told Ms. Hiep that her younger sister is living well with her adoptive parents in France and hopes to see her again soon. Previously, Ms. Hong had also traveled to Vietnam many times to find her biological parents but without results. These times, she received help and support from her adoptive parents.

“Seeing my children healthy makes me so happy. I just hope they understand and don’t hate their parents for not fulfilling their responsibilities,” Ms. Hiep shared.

Major Nhu Van Thuan, Deputy Chief of Hoa Hiep Commune Police - the person who directly connected the meeting between Mrs. Hiep and her daughter, said that when initially receiving the information provided by Ms. Hong, the unit had difficulty verifying Mrs. Hiep's residence because the commune's name had changed and she herself no longer lived in the area.

Furthermore, Ms. Hong cannot speak Vietnamese, so it is difficult to exchange information and then has to ask for an interpreter.

“The mother and daughter met again after so many years apart, everyone shed tears of happiness. Witnessing that scene, I could not hold back my tears either,” Major Nhu Van Thuan shared.
