France fielded their strongest lineup, despite Gibraltar's FIFA ranking of 201. The 2022 World Cup runners-up took the lead early on, controlling 82% of the ball and taking 24 shots. The match took place in Faro, Portugal, as Gibraltar's home stadium was not qualified to host the match.
France opened the scoring in the third minute. After a cross from Kingsley Coman, Olivier Giroud headed the ball from six metres past goalkeeper Dayle Coleing. The 36-year-old striker raised his goal-scoring record for the French national team to 54 goals, three more than Thierry Henry.

Under pressure from France, Gibraltar only had three shots, none of which were on target. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Coleing's goal became a target for the French players. If they had been more careful, the World Cup runners-up could have scored twice as many goals.
In the third minute of first-half stoppage time, Mbappe increased the score to 2-0. The 24-year-old striker successfully converted the penalty, after Roy Chipolina touched the ball in the penalty area. This was Mbappe's 39th goal for "Les Bleus".

France continued to dominate in the second half, but their finishing was less effective. Opportunities fell to the toes of Giroud, Mbappe, Griezmann, Dembele and Muani. It was not until the 78th minute that France sealed the victory. Mbappe's pass caused Mouelhi to score an own goal for Gibraltar.
With the win over the bottom team, France continues to lead Group B of the Euro 2024 qualifiers. Mbappe and his teammates have nine points and an 8-0 record after three games. Greece is second with six points, but has played one game less. The Netherlands is third with three points after two games. Ireland and Gibraltar have no points.
