For each product to be competitive and have a position in the market, it is not only necessary to have good quality, but also design, packaging, and brand. Therefore, the producers of OCOP products in the province have focused on investing in "making new clothes" for the products.
Hoan Ngoc Transport Company Limited, Hai Linh Ward (Nghi Son Town) always focuses on designing, upgrading models and packaging for OCOP products.
The two OCOP products recognized in 2023, "Ngoc Hoan Strawberry Wine" and "Ngoc Hoan Fruit Juice" of Hoan Ngoc Transport Company Limited, Hai Linh Ward (Nghi Son Town), have gradually gained a foothold in the market not only because of product quality but also because of sophisticated and luxurious designs and packaging. Ms. Le Thi Ngoc, representative of the company, affirmed: "For a customer who knows nothing about the company or product quality, packaging and labels are always the first point of contact and attraction for customers. Product labels not only provide basic information about the product but also directly affect the decision to choose and purchase. Therefore, the design of packaging and labels is always identified by the company as an important step".
From that awareness, in the process of building 2 products, Hoan Ngoc Transport Company Limited has chosen the design and material of bottles and jars; designed the logo, packaging, and box to be eye-catching, luxurious, and to show the core issues of the product, such as: raw materials, ingredients, manufacturer... With meticulousness from form to quality, the company's products are not only consumed well in the provincial market but also reach out to a number of other provinces and cities such as Hanoi, Hai Phong, Nghe An...
However, production reality shows that investing in designs, packaging and labels for OCOP products before and after being recognized requires quite a large amount of resources that not every unit or production facility can do. Mr. Le Van Duong, owner of Duong Van rice vermicelli production facility, Ha Vu 1 village, Hoang Dat commune (Hoang Hoa), said: "Duong Van rice vermicelli has been a famous product for decades in the locality. After being recognized as a 3-star OCOP product in 2023, consumption has become even stronger, with the facility producing about 300 kg of rice per day to meet the market demand in the province. Since the beginning of production, we have only focused on product quality. Later, to facilitate consumption, I also designed and printed product packaging in a simple form, with only information about the product and the production facility. Only when I participated in the OCOP Program did I realize that packaging and labels also need to be taken care of to make my products more complete."
It is known that, immediately after being recognized as OCOP, Duong Van rice vermicelli production facility invested nearly 100 million VND to design labels and packaging that are diverse, convenient, and suitable for consumers' needs from use to gifts. Thanks to that, among dozens of types of rice vermicelli products circulating on the market, customers can still identify and choose products with the Duong Van brand.
Thanh Hoa province currently has 508 OCOP products, most of which are favored and trusted by customers and consumers. Most of the manufacturers believe that the design, packaging, and labels of the new products are the first factors that determine the choice and trust of customers. Therefore, before and after being recognized as a provincial OCOP product, manufacturers always focus on investing resources to design beautiful, modern, and convenient product designs and packaging to attract customers.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Van, Director of Vinaco Agricultural Investment and Production Cooperative, one of the units supporting the consumption of OCOP products in the province, said: Although the superiority of designs and labels in promoting product consumption and reaching customers has been promoted, this is a step that requires creativity and sophistication that not all entities can do. Therefore, many OCOP products in the province are wearing similar "shirts". This not only reduces the appeal of the products themselves but also invisibly reduces the competitiveness of the OCOP product system in Thanh Hoa province.
In order to further improve the quality of OCOP products, Resolution 185/2021/NQ-HDND, dated December 10, 2021 on promulgating policies on agricultural, rural and farmer development in Thanh Hoa province, for the period 2022-2025, stipulates one-time support of 75 million VND/product to support promotion and propaganda; design models, purchase packaging, product labels, build brands and trademarks for OCOP products with 3 stars or higher.
In addition, every year, relevant departments, branches and units of the province also organize training and guidance for entities to build packaging and labels to increase the competitiveness of products in the market. At the same time, many trade promotion campaigns are organized so that entities have the opportunity to contact, learn and refer to OCOP products of units inside and outside the province, especially products in the same group. Active support from the State is the condition for entities to supplement and upgrade the designs and models of their products; contributing to increasing the value of products as well as increasing their appeal to consumers, gradually establishing a solid position in the market.
