196 pediatric patients at hospitals across the country will receive support from 30 to 100 million VND for treatment in the first 6 months of 2023.
6.6 billion VND has supported 2 children with organ transplants, 12 children with stem cell transplants and 182 children with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery... at the Central Children's Hospital, K Hospital, Xanh Pon General Hospital, Dien Bien General Hospital, Hue Central Hospital, Da Nang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, Children's Hospital 2, Oncology Hospital, City Children's Hospital, Blood Transfusion and Hematology Hospital of Ho Chi Minh City.
Nine-year-old Luu Xuan Giang from Hai Phong is one of the disadvantaged people who has benefited from the program. She was diagnosed with bone cancer earlier this year. She underwent two surgeries and 52 weeks of chemotherapy.
The family faced hardship when her parents were imprisoned for working illegally abroad and were stuck and unable to return home. Since the age of 2, Giang has lived with her grandmother and uncles. When she was sick, the hospital bills were all pooled together by both her paternal and maternal sides.
After more than four months of treatment, the total amount has increased to more than 100 million VND, most of which was borrowed. Recently, Giang's family had to apply for financial support for treatment. "Perhaps because he has been away from his parents since he was young, he doesn't talk much, and when asked anything, he just puts his head down and cries. I'm old and don't have money to pay for his treatment, I can only accompany him to the hospital," Giang's grandmother, Nguyen Thi Duoc, 76 years old, shared.

In addition to financial support, the Hope Sun program also donated more than 4,600 nutritious meals (nearly 140 million VND) to 705 pediatric patients at Dien Bien General Hospital. In parallel, the program coordinated with many businesses to organize activities to give gifts, donate milk, and provide playgrounds.
In the first 6 months of this year, Hope Sun continued its series of activities to raise awareness and raise funds for disadvantaged children "Vietnam Wishes", including talks and exhibitions.
These results were supported by Thien Tam Fund (over 2 billion VND), Mitsubishi Motors Vietnam 500 million VND, readers of VnExpress newspaper and other organizations and individuals (over 1.9 billion VND).
On average, 2,500 new children are diagnosed with cancer each year in Vietnam, according to a representative of the National Children's Hospital. In developed countries, over 80% of children with cancer are cured, while this rate in low- and middle-income countries is only 20%. The main reason for this difference is that families of Vietnamese children with cancer often have low incomes and have difficulty accessing advanced treatment methods.
Launched in March 2021, Hope Sun is a joint program of the Hope Fund and the Mr. Sun program founded by Mr. Minh Nhan, with the support of individuals and organizations, including Thien Tam Fund. The program is coordinating with leading hospitals in cancer treatment with the goal of: Providing financial support and raising the spirit of poor children with cancer; raising public awareness of childhood cancer.
In 2023, the program aims to sponsor 400 pediatric cancer patients, support 30,000 nutritious meals, help them improve their physical strength and cope with illness. Readers join the program here.
