On the morning of June 4, Mr. Cao Van Thin (35 years old), owner of a chicken farm in Dien Tho commune, Dien Chau district, Nghe An province, said that the power outage on the morning of June 3 caused heavy damage to the farm.

According to Mr. Thin, every year when the hot season begins, his farm prepares 3 generators to prevent power outages.

In early March this year, I invested nearly 70 million VND to buy 6,000 chickens. Up to now, the chickens have reached the right weight but have not been sold yet, ” Mr. Thin shared.

The power outage occurred at around 9am on June 3, but it was more than an hour later that Mr. Thin received notice of the power outage.

The power suddenly went out, and when the replacement generator was turned on, the ventilation fan motor short-circuited and burned out. Although he had prepared every plan, this time the ventilation fan broke down, leaving Mr. Thin unable to react in time.

According to the farm owner, when the ventilation fan stops working, the air cannot circulate, combined with hot weather, the temperature in the barn increases rapidly, causing the chickens to suffocate, go into heat shock and die quickly.

As soon as he discovered the incident, Mr. Thin mobilized his family to handle it. “ To cool down the chickens, I had to buy 2 tons of ice and spread it throughout the barn, and at the same time supplement electrolytes for the chickens. It was not until 3 p.m. the same day that the problem was resolved and handled .

In just a few hours, nearly 1,000 chickens died from heat shock, causing a loss of nearly 100 million VND, a huge amount for a farmer like me. All the sweat, effort, money, and capital my family invested in raising this batch of chickens was gone, ” Mr. Thin said sadly.

Knowing that Mr. Thin's chicken farm had an accident, the Dien Tho Commune Charity Association and the villagers joined hands to handle the dead chickens and help him salvage his property.

Mr. Dang Quang Trung, Chairman of Dien Tho Commune People's Committee, said that during the peak of the hot weather, power outages occurred alternately. All livestock farms in the area proactively purchased generators to prevent power outages.

In just a few hours, this farm suffered huge losses. Currently, the commune’s agricultural staff is keeping track of the number of chickens lost at Mr. Cao Van Thin’s farm to come up with a support plan ,” Mr. Trung shared.
