In a warning issued on November 4, the Department of Information Security said that the US cybersecurity company Barracuda Networks recently warned about a scam impersonating the Open AI technology group, stealing personal information of users of the ChatGPT artificial intelligence software.

Specifically, the subjects proactively approached the victims via email, informing them that the 'Chat GPT Plus' subscription renewal procedure could not be completed due to an invalid payment method, and requested access to the attached link to update more information.

When clicking on the link provided by the subjects, users are redirected to a fake website that looks like the Open AI website.

On the fake page, users will be asked to provide information such as ID number, phone number, home address, bank card information...

After the user follows the instructions, the website will redirect to the subscription renewal waiting screen. This is where the scammer will use the victim's banking information to make illegal transactions.

Advise people to be vigilant when receiving messages or emails requesting personal information, the Information Security Department also noted that domestic users need to carefully check the sender's email address, verify the website domain name; re-authenticate the information content; do not provide personal information or transfer money without verifying the authenticity of the message.

In case of detecting suspicious signs, users need to quickly report via email so that Google's technical team (if using gmail) can take timely measures to prevent fraudulent behavior.

People continue to fall into the trap of impersonation fraud to appropriate property. Impersonation fraud to appropriate people's property continues to be the prominent information about online fraud in Vietnam's cyberspace from September 30 to October 6, according to the Department of Information Security (Ministry of Information and Communications).
