Play flowers, ornamental plants early
At this time, flower markets and flower shops in many places in the province are filled with the brilliant colors of peach blossoms, kumquat pots and many kinds of flowers and ornamental plants. Many people are willing to spend from several million to several tens of millions of dong to decorate their houses for Tet.
Mr. Do Ngoc Hai in Binh Han Ward (Hai Duong City) visited some spring flower markets in Hai Duong City. Every year, during Tet, Mr. Hai always spends 15 - 20 million VND to buy ornamental grapefruit, ancient peach trees, and phalaenopsis orchids... to celebrate Tet. This year, Mr. Hai plans to buy a potted grapefruit and an ancient peach tree for a total of about 20 million VND to decorate his house. Mr. Hai said: "I went to some flower markets to find a satisfactory tree. Playing with flowers early helps the house have an earlier Tet atmosphere. Therefore, the time to play with ornamental plants is also longer than when buying them close to Tet."
Like Mr. Hai, Mr. Nguyen Bui Quynh in An Phuong commune (Thanh Ha) attaches great importance to decorating his house for Tet. As a bonsai enthusiast, Mr. Quynh spends a lot of time choosing trees with unique shapes to play Tet. This year, he ordered an ancient peach tree and a star fruit tree for a total of nearly 10 million VND. As long as he finds a tree with a satisfactory shape and size, Mr. Quynh is ready to "open his wallet".
Not only decorating in the home, in recent years, many restaurants and cafes in Hai Duong have arranged check-in corners according to each holiday and Tet to attract customers. This Tet, Me Coffee & Tea on Tue Tinh Street (Hai Duong City) spent about 50 million VND to decorate with the main color red. Ms. Dinh Thi Diem My, the owner of the shop, said that near Tet, the shop will buy more peach and apricot flowers to make the space more lively.
Abundant sources of goods
Although the prices of many types of flowers and ornamental plants are quite high, many families are still willing to buy them for their homes with the hope of having a year of good luck and prosperity. The market for flowers and ornamental plants in Hai Duong is therefore very diverse, meeting the needs of customers.
Grasping the tastes of customers, about a month ago, Mr. Chu Chi Quynh in Van Giang town (Hung Yen) started selling ornamental grapefruit trees at the flower market on Truong Chinh street (Hai Duong city). To have 150 ornamental grapefruit trees, Mr. Quynh spent about 3 years taking care of them with many different stages. Mr. Quynh said: "In the past few years, many businesses, shops, and households have spent tens of millions to bring in beautiful grapefruit trees with many fruits in the hope of much fortune in the new year".
The price of grapefruit depends on many factors such as the age of the tree, the unique shape and form of the tree, whether the grapefruit root is rough or not. In addition, the number of grapefruits on the tree is also a factor that determines the high or low price of ornamental grapefruit. The price of ornamental grapefruit that Mr. Quynh sells is usually from 15 to 20 million VND/tree, this price has increased by 10 to 15% compared to last year's Tet. The reason is that some ornamental grapefruit areas were affected by storm No. 3.
Currently, Leng Keng flower shop in Hai Tan ward (Hai Duong city) receives dozens of orders every day. Ms. Nguyen Hai Ngoc, the shop owner, continuously receives phone calls from customers asking and ordering flowers for Tet. The shop specializes in providing Da Lat Phalaenopsis orchids and imported flowers to serve consumers' Tet needs.
Phalaenopsis orchids last for 2-3 months, so they are popular with many people. Each branch of Da Lat Phalaenopsis orchids costs from 260,000 to 300,000 VND, pots are usually from 4-6 million VND, including large pots from 15-20 million VND. According to Ms. Ngoc, the trend of playing Phalaenopsis orchids this year is that many people often like to combine flower arrangements with miniature landscapes. Due to the large number of orders, she only accepts orders until the 28th of Tet to pay customers on time.
Along with traditional flowers, in recent years, many people tend to choose imported flowers to celebrate Tet. Ms. Ngoc has also imported many foreign flowers such as peach blossoms and American apricot blossoms to serve customers because these flowers have never been out of "hot". The average price of a pot of peach blossoms for the table is from 3 to 5 million VND.
