On May 21, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vinmec healthcare system held a ceremony to announce that Vinmec Central Park International General Hospital officially became the second member of the Cleveland Clinic Connected program in Vietnam.
After joining, experts from Cleveland Clinic and Vinmec Central Park will cooperate in key specialties such as oncology, cardiology, neurology... to evaluate current operations, consult on methods of applying operating procedures and expertise according to Cleveland Clinic standards.
At the same time, experts will work together to implement initiatives to bring excellent healthcare services to local customers.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Tran Van Thuan - Deputy Minister of Health - shared: "We are here to witness an important milestone of cooperation between two major healthcare systems of Vietnam and the United States, contributing to the development of the private healthcare sector in Vietnam".
According to the Deputy Minister of Health, Vietnam has become one of the countries with the fastest aging population in the world and is forecast to enter the aging population period by 2036.
In addition, about 22% of the population suffers from chronic diseases. On average, each elderly Vietnamese person suffers from 3 to 4 diseases, according to statistics in 2023. This is a challenge for the health sector but also an opportunity for us to resolve the problem of improving the quality of medical examination and treatment, developing comprehensive and modern health care solutions.
Ho Chi Minh City has achieved many important achievements in public health care. Ho Chi Minh City is currently assessed by the Ministry of Health as one of the leading localities in the country in specialized healthcare and medical technology development.
"The Ho Chi Minh City health sector is ensuring health care for 10 million residents, while receiving millions of patients from surrounding areas and foreigners. The Ministry of Health and the Ho Chi Minh City Health Department are also actively implementing specialized health projects to improve services and health care quality for the people," said Professor Thuan.
Accordingly, some key tasks that need to be carried out include training cooperation with prestigious universities around the world, promoting expertise with high-quality human resources at home and abroad as well as promoting digital transformation, improving management efficiency and quality of healthcare services.
Raising the quality standards of private healthcare in Ho Chi Minh City
According to Deputy Minister Thuan, Vinmec Central Park joining the global network of Cleveland Clinic will contribute significantly to raising the standards of private healthcare in Ho Chi Minh City in particular and the Southern region in general, thereby providing international-standard treatment quality right in the country so that Vietnamese people do not need to go abroad for medical treatment, while also increasing the ability to receive treatment for foreigners.
The Deputy Minister of Health expressed his hope that the private healthcare system will continue to develop alongside the public healthcare system to provide healthcare for the people. The private healthcare system strives to reach about 30% of hospital beds by 2025, compared to the current 8%.
