Indonesia calls Ronaldo, Rivaldo to play AFF Cup 2024
The preliminary list of the Indonesian team for the AFF Cup 2024 includes very interesting names such as Ronaldo and Rivaldo. Previously, U.23 Indonesia even called up... Beckham to play in the 32nd SEA Games. Or in the youth teams, the archipelago team has both Figo and Lionel Messi.
However, these young players are not related to the world's top players with the same name. Messi has no relatives in Indonesia, and Ronaldo (Brazil or Portugal) has no roots related to the archipelago.
Ronaldo Kwateh is a talent worth watching in Indonesian youth football with his quick, skillful feet and dribbling hobby just like the two superstar Ronaldo who once made the football world go crazy. At the age of 17, Ronaldo was promoted to the Indonesian U.23 team, playing in the 31st and 32nd SEA Games. He currently plays for Muangthong United (Thailand) and has just been called up to the AFF Cup 2024 squad.

Similarly, Rivaldo Eneiro Pakpahan is also a face that will make many people exclaim when mentioning his name. While Brazil's Rivaldo is already famous for his magical feet and flamboyant style of play, the Indonesian version of Rivaldo is at the threshold of potential. The talent born in 2003 is playing for Borneo FC in the domestic league, having played 11 matches in the Indonesian national championship this season. Rivaldo Eneiro plays as a midfielder and is also one of the players that Mr. Shin Tae-yong will test at the AFF Cup 2024.
Besides Ronaldo Kwateh and Rivaldo Eneiro, Indonesia also has interesting faces with the names or surnames of former famous players in the U.23 team. That is Beckham Putra, the player who scored against U.23 Thailand in the final of the 32nd SEA Games, helping U.23 Indonesia win the historic gold medal. Achmad Figo also shares the same surname as former famous player Figo, who played for both Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Or the Indonesian U.16 team also had a player named Lionel Messi. That was Lionel Messi Ai Fachri, a player who grew up from the Asiop Academy.
If Malaysia once caused a stir when calling up a player named Sergio Aguero to the national team, Indonesia has an abundance of "copycat" famous players at many levels.
Origin of the unique name
Naming in Indonesia has long been a curiosity for many people. In fact, Indonesia is a diverse country, possessing many types of naming cultures.
There is no general convention for naming in Indonesia. Some ethnic groups have names that are equivalent to their family names or surnames, called “marga”. Some people only have one word in their family names. Some have two words, three words. In fact, according to the question-and-answer site Quora , the longest name recorded in Indonesia is… 19 words.
Rivaldo Eneiro was born in 2003, is a bright young talent of Borneo Club (Indonesia)
Therefore, compared to other Southeast Asian countries that are strict about naming, football-loving parents can freely be creative and show their love for their idols by giving their children similar names or surnames.
For example, Beckham Putra's parents loved football so much that they named their son after the famous footballer David Beckham, hoping that he would follow in his footsteps as a footballer. Beckham Putra's older brother, Gian Zola, was also named after Gianfranco Zola, the famous Italian footballer who once made waves for Chelsea.
Indonesian football also has 2 players with the same name Ronaldo. Besides Kwateh, there is also Ronaldo Wanmah. Ronaldo is not only a name... that is related to football, but also contains the dream of reaching high with a football career of children who are pursuing their passion every day.
At the AFF Cup 2024, Indonesia's Ronaldo and Rivaldo will step into the light, when coach Shin Tae-yong decides to give opportunities to young players.
