Manchester United have terminated the loan of left-back Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham six months early, as they feel he is no longer needed by the team.
Reguilon joined Man Utd at the end of the 2023 summer transfer window on loan from Tottenham, until the end of June 2024, when Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia were both injured. However, Shaw and Malacia gradually returned, leaving Reguilon with no place at Old Trafford. In recent matches, coach Erik ten Hag even played Diogo Dalot on the left wing, leaving Reguilon on the bench.

Man Utd also only have two remaining competitions for the rest of the season, the FA Cup and the Premier League. Therefore, the team decided to end the six-month loan contract with Reguilon early. The Spanish defender will return to Tottenham, but there he will also have difficulty competing for the official position with Destiny Udogie. Udogie is on the rise and is considered by experts such as Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher to be the best left-back in the Premier League in the first half of the season.
Reguilon played 12 games for Man Utd in all competitions, without scoring a goal. However, fans appreciated the 28-year-old defender's fighting spirit, as he always played hard when he was on the field. However, his defensive ability was limited for the former Real Madrid player, while he did not contribute much to the attack.
Reguilon is the second player to leave Man Utd in 2024, after midfielder Donny van de Beek was loaned to Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany. The "Red Devils" only have one player on loan, midfielder Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina. Amrabat has recently lost his place to teenager Kobbie Mainoo. While Casemiro is about to return, the possibility of the Moroccan international remaining with Man Utd until the end of the season is also a question mark.
In the opposite direction, Man Utd are looking to borrow a striker in January 2024, as a backup for Rasmus Hojlund. They are targeting Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting from Bayern and Timo Werner from Leipzig. If they have the money, the team will buy striker Serhou Guirassy, who has scored 17 goals in the Bundesliga this season, from Stuttgart.
