Manchester United terminated the loan deal for left-back Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham six months early, as they felt he was no longer needed by the team.
Reguilon joined Man Utd at the end of the 2023 summer transfer window on loan from Tottenham, until the end of June 2024, when Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia were both injured. However, Shaw and Malacia gradually returned, leaving Reguilon with no place at Old Trafford. In recent matches, manager Erik ten Hag even deployed Diogo Dalot on the left wing, leaving Reguilon on the bench.

Manchester United only have two competitions left in the season: the FA Cup and the Premier League. Therefore, the club decided to terminate Reguilon's loan six months early. The Spanish defender will return to Tottenham, but even there he will struggle to compete for a starting position with Destiny Udogie. Udogie is in excellent form and is considered by experts like Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher to be the best left-back in the Premier League in the first half of the season.
Reguilon played 12 games for Man Utd in all competitions, without scoring a goal. However, fans appreciated the fighting spirit of the 28-year-old defender, as he always played with great effort whenever he came on. Despite this, his defensive abilities were limited, while he also didn't contribute much to the attack.
Reguilon is the second player to leave Man Utd in 2024, after midfielder Donny van de Beek was loaned to Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany. The Red Devils are now only loaning one player, midfielder Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina. Amrabat has recently lost his place to teenage Kobbie Mainoo. While Casemiro is close to returning, the Moroccan international's future with Man Utd for the rest of the season remains uncertain.
Conversely, Man Utd are looking to loan a striker in January 2024 to provide backup for Rasmus Hojlund. They are targeting Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting from Bayern and Timo Werner from Leipzig. If they have the money, they will buy Serhou Guirassy from Stuttgart, who has scored 17 goals in the Bundesliga this season.
