Man Utd won against Everton in round 28 of the Premier League with 2 goals both from the 11 meter penalty spot.
Man Utd have just lost 2 consecutive matches and they know that they must win against Everton to catch up with the top group. After the opening whistle, Man Utd tried to control the ball and coordinate from the home field. However, the Red Devils continuously made mistakes with many confusing mispasses.
Everton put on good pressure and continuously won the ball from the opponent's feet. Unfortunately, Beto, McNair and Doucoure wasted opportunities to score. Despite playing unconvincingly, Man Utd still took the lead thanks to the individual efforts of the strikers.
Rashford scores for Man Utd
In the 12th minute, Garnacho handled the ball delicately in the penalty area. Tarkowski fouled the Argentine player and the penalty was awarded to Man Utd. On the 11-meter penalty spot, Bruno Fernandes accurately finished to open the score for the home team. However, the advantage in terms of score did not help Man Utd improve the game.
Man Utd still rely heavily on Bruno Fernandes' long passes to Rashford and Garnacho, while Everton often win the one-on-one challenges. Unfortunately, they are not sophisticated enough to convert dangerous chances into goals.
In the 36th minute, Garnacho continued to dribble past 3 Everton players. Ben Godfrey committed a foul and the referee awarded another penalty to Man Utd. This time, Marcus Rashford was the one to finish and he continued to be successful to increase the score to 2-0.
In the second half, Man Utd played much better than in the first 45 minutes. Casemiro and his teammates were no longer passive against their opponents. Man Utd coordinated better but gradually revealed many gaps in defense. Jonny Evans let Calvert-Lewin pass but the English striker's shot was inaccurate. In addition, Man Utd was lucky in a few situations where Everton players finished very poorly.
In contrast, Man Utd counterattacked well with Garnacho's speed on the right wing. In fact, Man Utd's strikers still handled the game clumsily and ineffectively. In the last 15 minutes of the match, Everton accelerated and put a lot of pressure on Man Utd's field. But that effort was ineffective and Everton accepted a 0-2 defeat against their opponent on the away field.
With 47 points, Man Utd firmly holds the 6th position while Everton still cannot escape the relegation group when they are only 5 points ahead of Luton but have played 2 more matches.
