According to the New Strait Times, the Malaysian government will "pump" 230 million Malaysian ringgit into all the country's sports federations to serve plans in 2025. Of which, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) will receive 15 million ringgit (about 87 billion VND).
The money will be used to support the national team’s plans, including the appointment of top coaches and the awarding of prizes to outstanding individuals. It will also be used to build facilities and promote the development of youth football teams in Malaysia.
Speaking to the press, FAM Secretary General Datuk Noor Azman Rahman said: "We appreciate the Government's support. We will make the most of this support to develop Malaysian football."
According to Malaysian press, the task of appointing a head coach for the national team is of great significance. In the past, the Malaysian team was temporarily led by coach Pau Marti Vicente after coach Kim Pan Gon left.
However, Malaysia's performance has not been really impressive. Most recently, they just lost 0-4 to New Zealand in a friendly match. That makes Malaysian fans worried about the strength of their team in the AFF Cup 2024.
In recent times, FAM has been eyeing Coach Park Hang Seo as their top choice. Many football experts in this country have criticized the Korean coach’s salary of $50,000/month as too expensive. However, FAM has emphasized that they are willing to pay a high salary if they find a suitable coach for the team.
Now, after receiving money from the Malaysian government, FAM has more reason to promote the deal to recruit coach Park Hang Seo. After the success of coach Kim Pan Gon, the Malaysian football management agency seems to be quite interested in appointing a Korean coach.
Coach Park Hang Seo's talent has been proven during his time leading the Vietnamese national team. FAM believes that he is completely suitable to develop Malaysian football.
