Born during the resistance war against French colonialism under the direction of President Ho Chi Minh, under the leadership of the Party, the Government and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the Youth Volunteer Force (YV) has constantly trained, strived, and taken the lead, overcoming all difficulties and hardships, ready to sacrifice for the Fatherland and the people, contributing to the glorious history of the nation. During the renovation period, the Vietnamese Youth Volunteer Force in general, and in Quang Ninh province in particular, continued to make positive contributions to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
In the early 1950s, when the resistance war against the French colonialists was at its fiercest, Uncle Ho assigned the National Salvation Youth Union to organize a Youth Volunteer Force. On July 15, 1950, the first Central Youth Volunteer Force was established at Hong Mountain, Yen Lang Commune, Dai Tu District (Thai Nguyen Province), consisting of 225 members, led by Comrade Vuong Bich Vuong, Member of the Central Executive Committee of the Youth Union. After that, other Youth Volunteer Force Teams were established one after another, with the assigned tasks of clearing roads, transporting food, carrying wounded, carrying ammunition, fighting side by side with the troops, serving in combat, serving on the battlefield, contributing to protecting the headquarters of the Viet Bac resistance base.
As a homeland with a rich tradition of patriotism and revolution, in mid-1967, Quang Ninh province established a concentrated Youth Volunteer Force with the code name N78, with more than 800 young volunteers. The main tasks of the Youth Volunteer Force N78 were: Building combat fortifications and defense works; being on duty and guarding key traffic points; renovating and repairing roads; building bridges, culverts and underground bridges on intra-provincial traffic routes; loading and unloading weapons and goods at wharves, warehouses and ports... both serving the fight, being ready to fight, and at the same time fighting against the destructive war by the air force and navy of the US imperialists. After the war ended, the Youth Volunteer Force - N78 Quang Ninh completed its mission and returned to the localities, performing labor and production tasks in their hometown.
In early 1979, more than 10,000 coal workers, school students, and local youth were transferred to the border to build a battlefield to protect the Fatherland. The government mobilized 33,000 workers from Hai Phong City and Hai Hung Province to reinforce Quang Ninh Province, both to produce and to be ready to fight in border localities. Self-defense units at the company, battalion, and regiment levels were established in agencies, enterprises, mines, factories, and forestry farms... With a courageous and resilient spirit, self-defense units coordinated with the armed forces to fight heroically, creating an important victory in 1979.
Over the years, generations of Quang Ninh Youth Volunteers have sacrificed their youth, overcome many hardships, pains, and losses, but are very proud. The contributions of Quang Ninh Youth Volunteers have vividly portrayed the image of Vietnamese youth with a strong sense of patriotism, bravery, loyalty, and indomitability. Over the years, those Youth Volunteers of that time, now grandparents, continue to promote and spread traditional qualities in their families and society. They are still enthusiastic about production, supporting each other in economic development, educating the younger generation to live with the same will and determination as their fathers and brothers, contributing to building their homeland and country to become increasingly rich, beautiful, and civilized.
The Quang Ninh Provincial Association of Former Youth Volunteers currently has more than 2,000 members in 37 associations and 47 branches. Despite their advanced age, former Youth Volunteers always strictly follow all policies, guidelines, laws of the Party and the State; set good examples in implementing emulation movements and socio-economic development tasks in the locality, especially building new rural areas, civilized urban areas, and sustainable poverty reduction; actively participate in educating the younger generation about patriotism and revolutionary traditions, participate in building the Party and the political system, and build a peaceful and happy life.
Along with socio-economic development activities, the Provincial Association of Former Youth Volunteers continues to promote the revolutionary tradition, stepping up activities for comradeship. In particular, it has advised, proposed in a timely manner, participated in policy making and coordinated the settlement of regimes for former Youth Volunteers such as supporting the confirmation of martyrs and wounded soldiers; settling the regime for former Youth Volunteers infected with toxic chemicals and their children who are post-infected; providing one-time subsidies for living former Youth Volunteers and deceased former Youth Volunteers; organizing many practical activities to share and help poor, sick and disadvantaged members in life, focusing on the program "Comradeship of Former Youth Volunteers of Quang Ninh". Currently, the Association is maintaining and effectively managing the "Comradeship of Former Youth Volunteers" fund to support members in especially difficult circumstances... In addition, the Provincial Association of Former Youth Volunteers also organizes visiting and encouraging activities, along with many practical programs to strengthen comradeship. In the first 6 months of 2024, all levels of the association visited nearly 1,000 sick members; presented gifts to officials and members on holidays and Tet with a total amount of over 239 million VND. Some district-level associations have proactively organized "return to the source" activities to visit Dien Bien; organized meetings, visited, encouraged and presented gifts to members.
With 74 years of dedication and growth, the Vietnamese Youth Volunteer Force in general and in Quang Ninh in particular have written glorious pages of history, highlighting the nation's glorious revolutionary tradition. They are forever a source of pride, a "flame" of tradition that shines forever, encouraging today's young generation to learn and follow.
