Four years ago marked a major turning point for the Macbook laptop line when Apple decided to stop using Intel chips and instead switch to its own self-developed Apple Silicon (or M chip).
This decision is not only a technological change but also a long-term strategic one for Apple, helping the company better control performance and the ability to integrate hardware with software.
To date, the generation of laptops running M4 chips built on 3-nanometer technology has been born, considered the most advanced chip line for personal computers.
At the present time, if considered in general, the MacBook chip M series has many advantages and is the optimal choice for the majority of users. However, this does not mean that the MacBook chip Intel has completely lost its position.
The advent of the new generation of chips has given ordinary users access to Macbook lines running Intel chips, with prices equal to those of cheap laptops on the market.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam (25 years old, Dong Da, Hanoi) works as a content creator on social networks, often using a computer to browse the web, write content and edit simple images.
Also because of his basic needs, Mr. Nam bought a Macbook 2015 with an Intel Core I7 chip and 16Gb of RAM, at the present time in 2024. The machine serves basic needs but only costs 7 million VND.
"I really like Apple products, but I mostly choose to buy used products to save money. The Macbook I just bought gives a pretty good experience with beautiful display quality and finishing.
However, this laptop is a generation that was released a long time ago, so when used, it quickly heats up and the battery only lasts about 3 hours," Nam shared.
Spending 50 million in 2019 to buy a 16-inch Macbook running an Intel core I9 chip, at present the 5-year-old machine is still serving the image processing work, with many heavy graphics processing tasks for Mr. Nguyen Manh Quan (Long Bien, Hanoi).
Mr. Quan said that the computer is like an "inseparable" object because all his work is handled by this computer. After a while, the Macbook's battery life is not much anymore, Mr. Quan has also gotten used to using it while charging to ensure performance.
"The downside of a laptop using an Intel chip is that it heats up quite quickly, and the machine will easily run the cooling fan. But if you can ignore that inconvenience, in return the machine is equipped with a 3K resolution screen, IPS technology, 6 speakers along with a Radeon Pro 5300M GPU, an Intel Core I9 chip that provides high graphics performance. This 2019 Macbook will definitely be with me for a few more years," Mr. Quan affirmed.
The lowest price for Macbook models running Intel chips is only from 4 million VND.
The fact that it still provides sufficient performance, along with the cost of buying an old Macbook being much lower than the new generation of Macbooks, also makes this market vibrant.
Mr. Vo Thai Anh, representative of Brostore (Dong Da, Hanoi), specializing in providing old Macbook models, commented, "Apple launched the M4 chip at the end of October, the Macbook line running Intel chip has slightly reduced prices, with this generation often considered a "niche market" currently having an accessible price to serve a variety of user needs."
Referring to the market, the old Macbook line reaches almost all age groups in the low-cost mid-range segment, only from 4 - 6 million VND, you can find and buy Macbook Air lines from 2014-2017 with 13-inch screen or Macbook Pro 2015 with 13-inch screen to serve the needs of office, study, watching movies and basic entertainment.
Even many 15-inch Macbook models running Intel chips have good performance enough to do graphics, write COD programming. The "last generation" of Macbooks running Intel chips produced in 2019, 2020 are still priced from 12-17 million VND.
On social networking sites, it is not difficult to find Macbooks running Intel chips at very affordable prices, however, according to Mr. Thai Anh, one should be careful with "old" models.
"If users choose a used Macbook because of its low price, but good finishing quality and the beauty that has made this product line famous, then before spending money to own it, they need to have the skills to check the screen and battery life and make sure the components have not been replaced or repaired. If buying at a store, they should prioritize a reputable place with a long-term warranty and support," Mr. Thai Anh advised.
