At this age, if you are sick, your children will be bored, let alone your colleagues.
- Since retiring, for the past 7 years you have continuously appeared on television with notable films and in high demand at events. I have never seen People's Artist Lan Huong so energetic and also has no concept of 'retirement'?
When I was working at the Vietnam Drama Theater, time was limited so it was difficult to keep up with outside activities. Every year, I participated in two stage plays and the rest were for television and cinema. When I retired, I jokingly told my friends at VFC that I would do anything. Television dramas are usually long series and now I have a lot of time so it is easy to arrange.
After Living with Mother-in-law , I became more known to the audience through the small screen. Not only acting in movies, I also participate in charity and social security activities, in general, I am always busy.
When I was honored to be awarded the title of People's Artist by the State, I wanted to serve the audience more, not to keep the title for myself. I also wanted those noble titles to be reserved for deserving young people. Therefore, in addition to acting in films, I attended stage, television, and film festivals to recognize the contributions and talents of young people.

- Continuously participating in new film projects from the South to the North with a rolling schedule that puts a lot of pressure on even a young and energetic person. Do you ever feel tired?
It is true that at this age, to keep up, one must first have responsibility. The responsibility to complete the work will overcome other factors and give you positive energy.
My way of working is that when I accept a job, I try to do it as well as I can, never causing trouble for others. I often say that if I am sick at this age, even my children will be scared, let alone my colleagues, so I try to take the best care of myself.
I would also like to take this opportunity to tell young people to avoid taking on multiple roles at the same time. This never happened to me, maybe during the filming process I would participate in other activities but never act in several films at the same time.
Not only me, but people of the same generation rarely do that. To have a deep character, an artist must be wholehearted. If you are greedy to play many roles at once, the quality will definitely not be guaranteed.

- You said you have to pay attention to your health to complete your work, but you must also take great care of your beauty to stay in shape at the age of over 60, which many people dream of?
When getting old, everyone is afraid of getting fat, looking for ways to diet and stay in shape. I don't keep it to myself but I am moderate in my lifestyle. I eat 3 meals a day but only half a bowl each time. When I was young and now, I still maintain exercise to keep my body toned and flexible.
Playing the role of Mrs. Cuc, I don't have to act anything.
- The audience is very familiar with you through the image of mothers on screen, from formidable like Mrs. Phuong (Living with Mother-in-law), Mrs. Hien (Love the Sunny Days) to thoughtful and gentle like Mrs. Cuc in 'Our Family is Suddenly Happy'. Among those mothers, which character is closest to People's Artist Lan Huong in real life?
The character of Mrs. Cuc is quite close, so when playing this role, I didn't have to act anything, the costume is not only similar to other mothers but also similar to me. In real life as well as on film, I look after and pick up my grandchildren for my children. I like to help my children when I'm busy and take care of my grandchildren, it brings joy as well as energy to continue working. In the film, Mrs. Cuc's family only has 3 generations, but my family has 4 generations living together.

- Surely everyone in the family likes you to play the role of Mrs. Cuc more than the role of Mrs. Hien or Mrs. Phuong?
(Laughs out loud) When the TV showed the part where I yelled at Lan Phuong, my grandson said: Why does this lady keep making such a big deal out of it? He had never seen me behave like that in real life, so he was a bit surprised.
Since we got married we have limited our performances together.
- Will grandma be accompanied by grandpa when she goes to the Da Nang International Asian Film Festival this time? Because People's Artist Lan Huong and Do Ky often appear together at events...
Yes! When he was working, my husband had little time but now he often accompanies his wife. Recently, he participated in a new film of VFC, because of the press conference, he only came to Da Nang in the last days.

- It seems like you two are busier after retirement?
It is possible and this is luck. However, it is also a matter of effort because at this age many friends are tired and lazy to act in films. I feel happy when working with young people. They give me energy, access to new and modern trends in artistic development.
- People's Artist Lan Huong and Meritorious Artist Do Ky, do you think about playing a married couple again in a new movie?
Since Nep Nha, we have not acted together. Husband and wife can act together but in two projects, or in the same movie but in two different characters.
- Is it because you were not invited to play the role of husband and wife or because you don't like it?
I don’t like that, so if a producer or director invites me, I don’t accept. Each person needs to have their own opportunity to develop. Since getting married, we have limited our stage performances together, and the same goes for films. Working independently is more comfortable and we can give each other feedback. However, if there is a suitable film, we will do it. Ky and I are not very picky.

As you can see, not all of my roles are main roles. Same with Ky and I, we never think about short or long roles, even if we appear less, it is still a big role.
Many people commented that when acting with young people, there are excellent roles but sometimes the feeling is that the performance is not up to the mark. The director wants us to perform at the level that we want. We have better techniques and act better but we cannot always overshadow our colleagues. Sometimes we have to give way for young people to show and develop their talents. That is the responsibility of the older generation.
Someone asked if the success of a previous film creates pressure for the next film. For me, when I accept a role, I just do it well first, I never set a goal that the next role must be better than the previous one. The important thing is what I bring to the audience, not accepting this role or that role to become famous.
