Worldwide desktop and mobile site visits to ChatGPT fell 3.2% to 1.43 billion in August, after falling about 10% over the previous two months.
The amount of time visitors spent on the site has also decreased monthly since March, from an average of 8.7 minutes on site to 7 minutes on site in August.

However, worldwide visitors in August increased to 180.5 million users from 180 million.
The start of the new school year in September may help improve ChatGPT traffic and usage. US ChatGPT traffic increased slightly in August, as schools in the US resumed.
“Students looking for homework help seem to be part of the reason: the site’s share of younger users dropped over the summer and is now starting to rise again,” said David F. Carr of Similarweb, who regularly tracks ChatGPT and its competitors.
OpenAI also released an iOS app for ChatGPT in May, which may have reduced some of the traffic from their website. ChatGPT is free to use, but also offers a paid subscription plan for $20/month.
Besides ChatGPT, OpenAI makes money by directly selling access to its AI models to developers and businesses, and through a partnership with Microsoft, which has invested more than $10 billion in ChatGPT.
