In the first five months of the year, more than 84,000 Vietnamese tourists visited Thailand, ranking sixth among the markets with the largest number of visitors to this country.
Government spokeswoman Traisuree Taisaranakul said that since the beginning of the year (mid-May), the number of international visitors to Thailand has reached 9.47 million, contributing nearly 391 billion baht (11.43 billion USD) to revenue.
Vietnam ranked 6th among the top 10 international tourist markets to Thailand, with more than 84,000 arrivals. The two markets with the largest number of visitors were Malaysia (more than 367,000) and mainland China (more than 328,000). Ms. Taisaranakul said on May 20 that the increase in mainland Chinese visitors in the coming months could further boost the development of the Thai tourism industry.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is aiming to attract 150,000 Saudi Arabian visitors this year and expects to welcome 6 million European visitors. TAT estimates total tourism revenue by the end of the year to reach 1.5 trillion baht (over 43.5 billion USD), equal to 75% of 2019. The number of long-haul passengers booking air tickets to Thailand this summer is 70% of pre-pandemic levels.
TAT is also rolling out a number of initiatives to attract tourists such as launching the “Awesome, Must-See, Must-Love Secondary Cities” campaign to promote lesser-known destinations and a new culinary programme to attract foodies.
