Unexpected benefits of exercise for overweight and obese people

For overweight and obese people, exercise will help lose weight and prevent many dangerous diseases such as cardiovascular disease and cancer. In fact, a recent study by scientists at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor (USA) found that even if exercise does not help lose weight, it still brings many benefits to overweight and obese people, according to the health information site Everyday Health (USA).

Even if exercise doesn't help you lose weight, it still has many health benefits for people who are overweight or obese.

The study was conducted on 32 obese adults. They were divided into two groups. The first group did not have to exercise at all, while the second group had to exercise at least 4 days/week and continuously for 2 years.

After 2 years, the analysis of the fat tissue just below the skin of the abdomen between the 2 groups showed many differences. Specifically, the fat tissue of the exercise group had more blood vessels and contained higher levels of beneficial proteins. This helps the fat tissue to metabolize faster and secrete less inflammatory substances for the body.

Not only that, abdominal fat tissue is also less fibrotic, so it is softer and less stiff. Thanks to exercise, if fat tissue in overweight and obese people accumulates in the abdomen, it will be distributed more under the skin instead of in internal organs such as the liver or heart. In other words, exercise has changed the location of fat accumulation in the abdomen and made fat tissue healthier, with less negative impact on health.

Because exercise helps overweight and obese people reduce visceral fat, it also helps prevent the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes or fatty liver. This benefit is still achieved even if their body weight does not change.

One of the diseases that overweight and obese people need to pay close attention to is non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. In large body weight, high fat ratio will put them at high risk of this condition. Without proper intervention, fat cells will cause hepatitis, which can lead to cirrhosis over time. Cirrhosis will increase the risk of liver cancer, according to Everyday Health.
