Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son has just signed Notice No. 1489/TB-BGDDT concluding the draft plan to organize the High School Graduation Exam from 2025, the High School Graduation Exam for the first generation of students studying under the new 2018 general education program.
Accordingly, the Minister requested the Department of Research Quality Management to study and organize the annual exam at an earlier time than at present.
Candidates taking the graduation exam must take 4 compulsory subjects and 2 optional subjects (photo by Quang Hung).
The exam is organized by subject, including compulsory subjects and optional subjects in the 2018 General Education Program. There are a total of 10 subjects for the exam, including 4 compulsory subjects: Literature, Mathematics, Foreign Language, History; optional subjects include: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economic and Legal Education, Technology, Information Technology.
Thus, the exam is expected to not include the remaining optional subjects: Music, Fine Arts, and Geography.
The Minister requested the Department of Quality Management to research and clearly explain the legal basis, practical basis, new points and main difficulties and problems in implementation to consider and select the number of subjects of the exam plan.
The current exam format is essay-based for Literature and multiple-choice for the remaining subjects. The exam content closely follows the requirements for the main competencies and knowledge of grade 12 in the 2018 General Education Program, with a suitable roadmap to increase the content of competency assessment each year in accordance with the students' study time according to the new program.
The graduation assessment method still combines the results of the process assessment and the graduation exam results.
The Ministry of Education and Training assigned the Department of Quality Management to preside over the completion of the draft exam plan and continue to seek written opinions from 63 departments of education and training nationwide to have more basis for completion, submit to the Ministry's leaders to submit to the Government Standing Committee for consideration and permission to publish in September.
