This morning (February 21), Lee Kang-in posted on his personal Instagram account a second apology letter for the scuffle between him and Son Heung-min when the Korean team participated in the 2023 Asian Cup. The Paris Saint-Germain striker said he met Son Heung-min privately in London to apologize, and thanked his senior for welcoming and accepting him.
Lee Kang-in admitted to his shallow thinking and impulsive actions, causing disappointment to the Korean team and fans.
Son Heung-min forgives Lee Kang-in.
"I did something I should never have done at dinner that night. I deeply regret this. Respect and solidarity with the group are the most important things, but I lacked a lot," Lee Kang-in wrote.
About an hour later, Son Heung-min also shared about this issue on social media. The captain of the Korean team admitted that he was also at fault for not doing a good job of leading his teammates. The Tottenham star asked Korean fans to forgive him as well as Lee Kang-in.
"As captain, I sincerely apologize," Son Heung-min wrote.
The 31-year-old striker believes that this mistake is a lesson for Lee Kang-in to become more mature in the future and that Son Heung-min and his older teammates must be responsible for helping his juniors learn.
Son Heung-min shared: " Kang-in has sincerely reflected on his actions and apologized to all members of the Korean team, including me. When I was young, I also made many mistakes and had bad behavior, but I believe that I can stand here today thanks to the guidance and advice from my seniors.
To prevent Kang-in from doing something similar again, all the players - me as a senior and captain - will take special care of him so that he can grow up.
I also did not do my job well. It is an action that can be criticized. However, I believe that one of the duties of a captain is to do what is best for the team even if it is uncomfortable for me personally. If I were to fall into a similar situation again, I would still act in the best interests of the team but I would try to lead my teammates in a more rational way.
Kang-in is going through a very difficult time after this incident. Please forgive us generously."
The captain of the South Korean team also denied rumors of internal division within the team.
