Permanent Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien - Hue Province Nguyen Thanh Binh said that Hue is a major religious and belief center of the Central - Central Highlands region and the whole country, in which Buddhism is a religion that plays a major role and influence in the lives of the people of the ancient capital and has become a part of spiritual culture, contributing to enriching the cultural identity and people of Hue.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh emphasized: The locality recognizes and highly appreciates the contributions of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of the province in recent times. In particular, the activities in response to the Hue Festival have contributed to preserving, promoting and honoring cultural values; attracting a large number of domestic and foreign tourists to Hue; developing the local economy and society. All of these vividly demonstrate the worldly spirit of Hue Buddhism on the path of integration and development of the country, together with the people of the province to build an advanced culture imbued with national identity, and unite to strive for the goal of a rich people, a strong country, democracy, fairness and civilization.
The Lantern Festival is a sacred spiritual journey, taking place in a solemn and respectful atmosphere.
After the ceremonies, 20 boats took provincial leaders, along with a large number of monks, nuns, Buddhists and people to the riverbank, releasing about 30,000 flower lanterns into the poetic Huong River.
Thousands of lanterns light up the night of the Ancient Capital, carrying prayers for peace, favorable weather, safety and happiness for everyone.
Ms. Le Thi Nhan, Hue city said: "As someone born and raised in Thua Thien - Hue, releasing flower lanterns on the Huong River is a very special and meaningful thing for me. I pray that my family will always be safe and healthy and that my hometown will develop more and more, soon becoming a city directly under the Central Government."
Previously, the Social Charity Board, Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of Thua Thien - Hue province opened the Vegetarian Food Festival on June 8, attracting nearly 2,000 people and tourists. The Vegetarian Food Festival ended on June 9.
