Traditional boat racing festival to celebrate the Party and the New Year of the Dragon 2024

At noon on the second day of Lunar New Year (February 11, 2024), Phan Thiet city was bustling with the traditional boat and basket racing festival to celebrate the Party and the Spring of Giap Thin.

Right from the early afternoon, Phan Thiet city was more bustling and exciting when people from all over flocked to both sides of the Ca Ty River, eagerly awaiting the most exciting sporting event during the Tet holidays. This is a unique cultural event organized by Phan Thiet city, taking place every Lunar New Year, bearing the identity of the coastal people of Phan Thiet city.

Attending the event were Alternate member of the Party Central Committee - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council Nguyen Hoai Anh; Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh; leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; leaders of Phan Thiet city; and a large number of locals and tourists.

This year's boat and basket racing festival attracted the participation of 270 athletes from 13 wards and communes in Phan Thiet city to compete in boat racing and basket racing for men. Accordingly, the boat racing has 3 events including: Parallel racing at a distance of 300m, 500m and round-trip boat racing at a distance of 1,200m with the participation of 270 athletes from 9 wards, including: Ham Tien, Tien Thanh, Mui Ne, Phu Hai, Phu Trinh, Binh Hung, Duc Thang, Duc Nghia, Lac Dao, Duc Long and Phu Tai. Divided into 3 groups, the group winner will compete in the final round.

The basket boat race includes rowing (single, double) and rowing (500m) with the participation of the following wards and communes: Hung Long, Thanh Hai, Ham Tien and Tien Thanh. All the athletes participating are fishermen living by fishing in Phan Thiet city.

After fierce competitions of the "rowers" with enthusiastic cheers from the audience, the boat team of Lac Dao ward won first prize in the 300m distance, Phu Tai ward won first prize in the 500m distance and 1,200m distance. In the basket boat racing event, Hung Long ward won first prize in single basket boat and Ham Tien ward won first prize in basket boat, Tien Thanh commune won first prize in double basket boat.

Taking place in the first days of the new spring, the traditional boat racing festival to celebrate the Party - celebrate the New Year of the Dragon 2024 in Phan Thiet city has the meaning of encouraging and promoting the movement of physical training and sports among the people. At the same time, it demonstrates the resilient strength of fishermen, ready to go out to sea and maintain the sovereignty of the homeland's sea and islands.
