On the morning of April 16 (March 8 of the lunar calendar), at Le Hoan Temple, Xuan Lap Commune, Tho Xuan District, the Le Hoan Temple Festival 2024 was solemnly held, commemorating the 1019th anniversary of the death of National Hero Le Hoan.

National hero Le Hoan was born on July 15, Tan Suu year 941, in Trung Lap village, Ai Chau, now Xuan Lap commune, Tho Xuan district, Thanh Hoa province. Born into a poor family, Le Hoan soon showed his intelligence and bravery. Having made many contributions in the suppression of the 12 warlords, Le Hoan was appointed by Emperor Dinh Tien Hoang as Thap Dao Tuong Quan, Dien Tien Do Chi Huy Su, to manage the army of Dai Co Viet country and directly command the royal guard.

In 979, King Dinh Tien Hoang passed away, King Dinh Toan ascended the throne at the age of 6, the court was in chaos, foreign invaders were threatening to invade. In that context, Queen Mother Duong Van Nga and all the civil and military mandarins agreed to enthrone the General of the Ten Directions. Le Hoan ascended the throne in 980, personally commanded the army, defeated the invading army of the Song Dynasty, and kept the northern border of the country peaceful. In 982, Emperor Le Dai Hanh led the army to surrender to Champa, protecting the southern territory. This is considered the first southern expedition in the history of building and defending the country of the Vietnamese people.
The cause of fighting against the Song and pacifying the Champa by Emperor Le Dai Hanh will forever be a source of pride in the history of the country's resistance against foreign invaders. Not only was Emperor Le Dai Hanh a talented strategist, he was also an excellent diplomat, implementing many progressive reforms in agricultural development, recruiting talents... building Dai Co Viet into a prosperous nation at that time.

In 1005, Emperor Le Dai Hanh passed away at the age of 64. To commemorate the great merits of this outstanding hero, the people built a temple to worship him in Trung Lap village, Xuan Lap commune. In 2018, the Prime Minister signed a decision to recognize Le Hoan temple as a special national monument.

Every year, the Le Hoan Temple Festival is held on the 8th day of the 3rd lunar month to commemorate the contributions of Emperor Le Dai Hanh and his predecessors who contributed their wisdom, effort, and blood to maintain national sovereignty throughout a thousand years of history. The festival has many contents, the most special of which are the rituals recreating the cultural life of the army and people under the Tien Le Dynasty.
In the solemn atmosphere of the ceremony, comrade Do Trong Hung, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, beat the drum to open the Le Hoan temple festival in 2024.
Next is the elaborate staged art program by artists from Thanh Hoa Traditional Arts Theater, with the theme "Emperor Le Dai Hanh - A thousand years of glorious feats", including 3 chapters: Chapter 1 - The sacred land gives birth to heroic people; Chapter 2 - Defeating Song, pacifying Chiem, making Dai Co Viet famous; Chapter 3 - Following the footsteps of our ancestors to build a strong and prosperous homeland.
The program recreates and praises the great contributions of National Hero Le Hoan and all classes of people in the fight against foreign invaders, keeping the country's borders and territories safe; at the same time, it demonstrates the great achievements of Thanh Hoa province in the cause of innovation and development today.
