In the US, because she went into premature labor before her due date, bride Sara married her boyfriend, Brandon Perry, right in the maternity ward of the hospital.

The unusual wedding was reported by international media on April 15th. Initially, the couple planned to hold their wedding on February 16th, believing they had plenty of time before their baby was born. However, on the morning of February 13th, at 35 weeks pregnant, Sara's water broke unexpectedly. She and her fiancé rushed to Saint Luke's East Hospital in Lee's Summit. There, she sadly confided to a medical staff member that they would miss their scheduled wedding.

The story spread among the nurses, and eventually the hospital decided to organize a small wedding for the couple right before Sara went into labor. The unexpected idea thrilled the young couple.

"That's what we both want, there's no reason to delay it," Perry said as she went to her car to retrieve the marriage certificate she had kept ready.

The nurses made a wedding bouquet and veil out of large gauze bandages. Sara's white wedding dress was made from a hospital bedsheet. Recalling this, Sara said she was overwhelmed and found it very interesting. Hospital staff also used colored paper to cover the delivery room door to create a backdrop for Sara and Perry's wedding photos, with the words "Newlywed Couple" simply cut and pasted on.

The wedding ceremony was quick, lasting about 30 minutes, because Sara was in labor and experiencing contractions, but it still included all the rituals from exchanging rings and vows to throwing the wedding bouquet.

About nine hours after the wedding, the Perry family welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Oliver. He spent his first few weeks in the premature infant intensive care unit but is now healthy and has been discharged from the hospital.

"You are the sweetest thing I've ever received, and we'll be celebrating that for the next few years," Sara said.

Her husband said they still plan to have a more formal wedding in Mexico or a Caribbean country later this year. However, the unique wedding at the hospital will be a memory the couple will never forget.
