On the evening of January 1, Dong Trieu City solemnly held a ceremony to announce the Resolution of the National Assembly Standing Committee on the establishment of Dong Trieu City and to receive the First Class Labor Medal - a noble award from the Party and the State. This is an important political event, an honor and pride for the Party Committee, government and people of Dong Trieu. Attending the ceremony on the Central side were comrades: Nguyen Thi Thanh, member of the Party Central Committee, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly; Vu Hong Thanh, member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Economic Committee of the National Assembly; leaders and former leaders of ministries, departments and branches of the Central. On the Quang Ninh province side, there were comrades: Vu Dai Thang, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Trinh Thi Minh Thanh, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Council; Pham Duc An, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Dang Xuan Phuong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation; leaders, former leaders of the province and many people in the city.

Dong Trieu is a land of outstanding people, and at the same time the cradle of the working class in the mining area, with the tradition of "Discipline and Unity". Dong Trieu is also the place that marked many important events of the Vietnamese revolution. Mao Khe mining area witnessed the activities of the Party's senior leaders during the "proletarianization" period, with the establishment of the first Communist Party cell in Quang Ninh mining area on February 23, 1930. This is also the birthplace of Tran Hung Dao War Zone - the Fourth War Zone, which carried out the earliest uprising to seize power in the whole country on June 8, 1945.

Promoting the glorious tradition of the homeland of the Fourth War Zone, the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in Dong Trieu always maintain the spirit of solidarity, innovation and creativity; actively exploit and effectively promote the potential and advantages of the locality, take advantage of the leadership and assistance of the Central Government, the province and other localities; contribute to creating strong changes, breakthrough developments, gradually affirming Dong Trieu as a land rich in revolutionary traditions, full of vitality and potential in the cause of innovation, integration and development of the country.

After nearly 10 years of establishment, Dong Trieu has become a bright spot in the development of Quang Ninh province; affirming its position as a dynamic and sustainable developing locality in the integration period. The economy has continuously maintained stable and sustainable development, with an average growth rate of over 14% in the 2020-2024 period. The economic structure has shifted positively, with the industrial - construction and service - trade sectors accounting for 95.9%; the agricultural - forestry - fishery sector accounting for 4.1%. Dong Trieu has always been the leading locality in Quang Ninh province in building a model new rural area, in which Viet Dan commune is the first commune in the country to meet the model new rural standards.

From 2020 to present, the total budget capital for investment in construction projects in the city has reached over 12,000 billion VND; many construction projects have been invested. Also during this period, over 17,000 billion VND of non-budget capital has been invested in projects and constructions in the area. The social infrastructure system has been completed, with 100% of cultural houses being invested in upgrading and newly built; 79/79 schools have been invested in meeting standards, meeting the requirements of educational innovation, making Dong Trieu a leading locality in educational innovation and training; 21/21 medical stations have been invested in upgrading, ensuring good service to the people's health care needs. People's lives are increasingly improved, the average income per capita in 2024 will reach 8,803 USD, there will be no poor households in the city according to the province's criteria, exceeding the target set by the congress resolution.

With the determination and tireless efforts of the Party Committee, government and people of Dong Trieu, on December 29, 2023, Dong Trieu was recognized by the Ministry of Construction as meeting the criteria of a type III urban area with a plan to expand the inner-city area by 4 more wards. On September 28, 2024, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly issued Resolution No. 1199 on the arrangement of commune-level administrative units, establishing 4 wards: Binh Duong, Thuy An, Binh Khe, Yen Duc and establishing Dong Trieu City - the 5th city of Quang Ninh province.
