Reporting the results, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Pham Quoc Toan - Head of the Vietnamese delegation participating in the 2024 International Junior Science Olympiad, said that this year's International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) took place in Romania from December 2 to December 12 with the participation of more than 303 students from 52 countries and territories. The Hanoi delegation representing Vietnam participating in the competition included 2 observers, 3 teachers and 6 students.
Candidates took the natural science exam in 3 subjects: physics, chemistry, biology, each subject has 3 tests including: objective test; theory test; practical test. The delegation also participated in many cultural exchange programs with the host country and international delegations and was highly appreciated for its friendliness.
With the highest effort and determination, all 6 students won medals, including 5 Silver Medals and 1 Bronze Medal. The 5 students who won Silver Medals were: Le Tung Lam, Le Gia Hong Minh, Nguyen Ngoc Que Chi (Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted), Vuong Ha Chi, Vu Nhat Long (Newton Secondary - High School). 1 student who won Bronze Medal was Nguyen Thanh Nhan (Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted).
On behalf of the delegation, Le Tung Lam (a student who won a Silver Medal) shared his interesting experiences when participating in the exam and said: during the days in Romania, the members received the attention of the teachers, which helped them maintain a stable mentality, confidence, and determination to take the exam. Through these experiences, he and his friends have further improved their knowledge and skills and will continue to learn to achieve better results.
Congratulating the excellent achievements of the students participating in the exam and the schools and families of the students taking the exam, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong said that the achievements of the students are the result of their own efforts and the close support of the school and family. This proud result is a milestone and a motivation for the students to continue striving for even higher achievements.
Over the years, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has been entrusted by the Ministry of Education and Training and the Hanoi People's Committee with the task of selecting and establishing a student delegation to participate in the IJSO exam and has achieved excellent results, contributing to affirming the quality and prestige of Vietnam's leading education to other countries. Through the times of participating in the exam (from 2007 to 2023), the Hanoi team, representing Vietnam, has always achieved high results with a total of 77 medals, including 16 Gold Medals.
In particular, in 2024, with the determination to innovate, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training changed the way students were selected to participate in the competition. Accordingly, 6 official members of the competition team were selected from more than 200 students with the best scientific abilities in Hanoi.
With 100% of students winning medals, including 5 Silver Medals and 1 Bronze Medal, the achievements of the Hanoi student delegation were highly appreciated and surpassed the quality of the medals compared to IJSO 2023.
The International Junior Science Olympiad is a prestigious competition for students under 15 years old, organized by the Ministries of Education and Training of countries around the world. The competition aims to encourage students to have early access to practical scientific knowledge, create momentum for global educational cooperation, and provide an opportunity for cultural exchange between students and teachers.
