Responding to VTC News, the VFF leader said: " The Vietnamese team played with all their might, but the Gelora Bung Karno pitch was very bad. That made it difficult for the team to deploy their techniques, while the naturalized Indonesian players were tall and big.
Yesterday, it was the Indonesian team that played defensive counter-attacks, not the Vietnamese team. Our players tried their best. We still have the second leg ."
This person added that the contract between VFF and Mr. Troussier is bound by performance.
" Everything must follow the contract, follow the achievements and have clear results. If Mr. Troussier achieves good results, he will continue his job. If the achievements are not good, Coach Troussier must comply with the signed contract. The Vietnam Football Federation works according to the provisions of the contract. If not, we have to pay money like the way Korea compensated Coach Klinsmann. However, perhaps no federation in Southeast Asia can meet that requirement ," the leader shared.
The leader affirmed that fans do not need to worry too much about the contract between VFF and Coach Troussier. The contract between the two sides is signed until mid-2026. He emphasized: " The contract is binding and reasonable for both sides. The specific achievements are clear in the contract, so everyone does not have to worry too much about the contract ."
Coach Troussier is facing great pressure after losing to Indonesia on the evening of March 21. The Vietnamese team is at risk of being eliminated from the 2026 World Cup qualifiers if they fail to qualify for the next round.
Previously, the French coach failed to help U22 Vietnam defend the SEA Games gold medal last year. Mr. Troussier and the Vietnamese team were eliminated from the group stage of the 2023 Asian Cup.
Public opinion has expressed many conflicting opinions, including the dismissal of the French strategist. The leader of VFF emphasized that the federation respects the opinions of fans when the team loses a match. However, the federation does not follow public opinion but focuses on helping the Vietnamese team play at its best.
On the evening of March 22, the Vietnamese team returned home. Coach Troussier and his players rested before entering the afternoon session of March 23. The Vietnamese team must win the next match to reclaim the second place in the group from Indonesia, thereby keeping alive the hope of advancing.
“ In the next match, the home field is an advantage for the Vietnamese team. Indonesia will probably aim for a draw. Therefore, we will calculate to deal with counter-attack situations, which is also Indonesia's strength. After the first leg, I also collected a lot of information about the players, which will help me make adjustments for the next match. Hopefully, when we return to Hanoi, we will come back stronger. We hope that fans will come to the stadium to cheer for the team as strongly as the Indonesian fans have inspired their home team ,” said coach Philippe Troussier.
