Provincial People's Committee leaders inspect drought response work in Ninh Phuoc and Thuan Nam districts

On May 3, Mr. Trinh Minh Hoang, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, inspected drought response work in Ninh Phuoc and Thuan Nam districts. He was accompanied by leaders of relevant departments and branches.

After inspecting the summer-autumn crop production area in Phuoc Thai commune; Bau Zon reservoir (Ninh Phuoc); Tan Giang reservoir and visiting the fruit tree growing model of households in Nhi Ha commune (Thuan Nam), the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee listened to the leaders of the two localities report on the drought response situation in the area. Accordingly, the People's Committees of the districts have proactively issued plans, directed branches, communes and towns to strengthen propaganda to raise awareness of organizations, units and people to proactively respond to drought; regularly inspect and strictly manage water sources in irrigation systems, ponds and lakes to deploy plans to provide enough water for people's daily life and serve production activities. In Ninh Phuoc district, it is expected that from now until the end of May, if there is no rain in the province, the whole district plans to plant 7,715.7 hectares of various crops in the summer-autumn crop and temporarily stop production of 2,159 hectares of areas benefiting from the Nam Canal and Cham Canal irrigation systems. For Thuan Nam district, stop production of 2,284 hectares of summer-autumn crops; at the same time, propose the province to support funding for pumping water for 50 hectares of perennial trees that are currently lacking water and propose the Provincial Center for Clean Water and Rural Environmental Sanitation to have a plan to reserve domestic water sources for people in Nhi Ha and Phuoc Ha communes when the drought lasts.

Through the field inspection, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee acknowledged and highly appreciated the proactive spirit of localities in drought response. Forecasting that the drought situation will continue to be severe, he requested Ninh Phuoc and Thuan Nam districts to closely coordinate with relevant functional agencies to focus on reviewing water use needs; in which, it is necessary to prioritize water for daily life, drinking water for livestock and perennial plants with high economic value; organize production in each region appropriately, promote the conversion of dry crops associated with water-saving irrigation systems, and resolutely not let unplanned production occur. Allocate funds to dredge ponds, lakes and canals; propagate and mobilize people to proactively reserve food and drinking water for livestock.
