Many university leaders are proposed to be considered for recognition as professors and associate professors.

The State Council of Professors has just announced the list of candidates proposed by the basic council of professors to be considered for recognition as meeting the standards for the title of professor and associate professor in 2024.

Accordingly, there are a total of 673 candidates (22 less than in 2023) with 62 professor candidates and 611 associate professor candidates.

Notably, this list includes many professor and associate professor candidates who are principals, vice principals, and vice directors of universities.

Professorial candidates

Mr. Mai Thanh Phong (born February 3, 1972, hometown Duc Tho district, Ha Tinh province), candidate for professor of chemistry.

Associate Professor, Dr. Mai Thanh Phong is currently the principal of the University of Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University).

Mr. Phong graduated with a bachelor's degree in chemical technology from Hanoi University of Science and Technology in 1994; a master's degree in environmental technology from the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand in 1999; and a doctorate in chemical processes and systems from Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg, Germany.

Mr. Phong was recognized as associate professor of chemistry in 2013.

Ms. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan (born December 11, 1974, in Can Duoc district, Long An province), candidate for professor of history. This year's interdisciplinary council of history - archaeology - ethnology has 5 candidates, of which there is only 1 candidate for the title of professor, Ms. Lan (ethnology major).

Associate Professor, Dr. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan is currently the principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University).

She graduated from university with a degree in Oriental Studies, majoring in Southeast Asian Studies at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City in 1997.

In 2002 she graduated with a master's degree in anthropology from the University of Toronto, Canada.

In 2012, she was awarded a PhD in history with a major in ethnology from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University).

Ms. Lan was recognized as meeting the standards for the title of associate professor, majoring in ethnology in 2018.

Ms. Lan has guided 2 doctoral students to successfully defend their theses, 19 master's students, completed 9 scientific research topics and 15 projects at all levels.

She has published 53 scientific articles, including 5 in prestigious international journals (ISI/Scopus). In addition, Ms. Lan has published 13 books and 4 book chapters with domestic and foreign publishers.

Mr. Huynh Trung Hieu (born July 20, 1975, hometown Cao Lanh, Dong Thap province), candidate for professor of information technology.

Associate Professor, Dr. Huynh Trung Hieu is currently Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry.

Mr. Hieu graduated with a master's degree in computer science from the University of Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University); and a doctorate in computer science from Chonnam National University, Korea.

Mr. Hieu's main research directions are machine learning and applications in biomedical data analysis and patient safety.

Youngest Professor Candidate of 2024

Mr. Tran Quoc Trung (born March 26, 1986, 38 years old, from Duy Xuyen district, Quang Nam province), economics.

Among the 62 professor candidates this year, Mr. Trung is the youngest.

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Quoc Trung is currently the Vice President of Foreign Trade University, Campus II in Ho Chi Minh City.

Mr. Pham Quoc Hung (born June 20, 1974, hometown Ham Phu commune, Ham Thuan Bac district, Binh Thuan province), candidate for professor of aquaculture.

Associate Professor Dr. Pham Quoc Hung is currently the Vice Rector of Nha Trang University. Mr. Hung has more than 25 years of working experience at Nha Trang University.

As the director of the Institute of Aquaculture (2013-2022), he managed and organized the implementation of undergraduate and postgraduate training programs at the school.

Associate professor candidates

Ms. Le Thi Ngoc Diep (born May 19, 1973, hometown Can Duoc district, Long An province), candidate for associate professor of culture.

Dr. Le Thi Ngoc Diep is currently the Party Secretary and President of the University Council of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University).

She graduated from university with a degree in library and information science in 1997, a master's degree in cultural studies in 2006 and a doctorate in cultural studies in 2014 at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University).

Mr. Nguyen Tan Tran Minh Khang (born December 11, 1974, hometown Dien Ban, Quang Nam province), candidate for associate professor of information technology.

Dr. Nguyen Tan Tran Minh Khang is currently Vice Principal of University of Information Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University).

Mr. Pham Quoc Viet (born February 26, 1970, hometown An Nhon town, Binh Dinh province), candidate for associate professor of economics.

Dr. Pham Quoc Viet is currently Vice Principal of University of Finance - Marketing.

He graduated with a bachelor's degree in labor economics and sociology (1996) from Moscow State University of Social Sciences, Russia; a master's degree in finance, money circulation and credit (2004) from Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics; and a doctorate in finance and banking (2011) from Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics.

Mr. Tran Trong Dao (born November 10, 1981, from Mo Duc district, Quang Ngai province), candidate for associate professor in automation.

Dr. Tran Trong Dao is currently the principal of Ton Duc Thang University. Mr. Dao graduated with a bachelor's degree (2004), a master's degree in mechanical engineering (2006) from the Technical University of Ostrava, Czech Republic; and a doctorate in chemistry and process engineering (2009) from Tomas Bata University in Zlín, Czech Republic.

Mr. Dao declared that he had published 29 scientific articles and reports, of which 16 were in prestigious international journals (WoS/Scopus).

Mr. Dao was awarded the 3rd and 2nd class Labor Medal by the President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic.

Mr. Mai Hai Chau (born August 6, 1980, from Nga Son district, Thanh Hoa province), candidate for associate professor of agriculture.

Dr. Mai Hai Chau is currently the Deputy Director of the Forestry University Branch in Dong Nai province.

He graduated with a bachelor's degree in agronomy (2002) from Hong Duc University; a master's degree in agronomy (2010) from Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry; and a doctorate in plant science (2017) from Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry.

Mr. Tien Hai Ly (born May 19, 1968, Hoa Binh district, Bac Lieu province), candidate for associate professor of aquaculture. Dr. Tien Hai Ly is currently vice principal of Bac Lieu University.
