The leaders of Russia, the US, Germany, France, the EU and NATO have congratulated President Tayyip Erdogan on his re-election after the chairman of Türkiye's Supreme Election Council confirmed his victory.
On the morning of May 29 (Vietnam time), Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan on winning the second round of the presidential election.
In a statement on the Kremlin's news website, President Putin stressed that Mr. Erdogan's victory in this election is the right result for the contributions that Mr. Erdogan has made as the head of the Turkish state.
"This victory is clear evidence of the Turkish people's support for his (Erdogan's) efforts to strengthen national sovereignty and pursue an independent foreign policy."
US President Joe Biden congratulated Mr. Erdogan on his election as president . On Twitter, President Biden emphasized: "I look forward to continuing to work (with Mr. Erdogan) as allies in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) on bilateral issues and shared global challenges."
The US President's statement did not mention recent political tensions between the two countries.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken also congratulated Mr Erdogan, describing Türkiye as a "valued NATO partner and ally."
"I look forward to continuing to work with the government elected by the Turkish people," Mr. Blinken stressed. He also appreciated the high rate of Turkish voters participating in these elections.
Meanwhile, the European Union (EU) and NATO also congratulated Mr. Erdogan on his re-election.
"I look forward to continuing to build on the EU-Turkey relationship. It is of strategic importance for both the EU and Turkey to work to advance this relationship, for the benefit of our peoples," European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Twitter.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also congratulated Mr. Erdogan: "Congratulations to the President (Erdogan) on his re-election . I look forward to continuing our work together and preparing for the NATO Summit in July."
Immediately after the results of the Turkish presidential election were announced, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz sent his congratulations to Mr. Tayyip Erdogan and expressed his hope for future cooperation between the two countries.
On Twitter, Chancellor Scholz wrote: "Germany and Türkiye are close partners and allies. We are also closely linked socially and economically. Congratulations to President Erdogan on his re-election. Now we want to jointly advance our common agenda with new impetus."
French President Emmanuel Macron also congratulated Mr. Tayyip Erdogan on his victory, and declared that the two countries are facing many challenges that need to be resolved together, including "bringing peace back to Europe."
