According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Huong, this is an extremely meaningful moment, demonstrating the determination of the Vietnam Women's Union, UN Women and the Vietnam Journalists Association in implementing gender equality, especially contributing to raising awareness of the whole society about the important meaning of gender equality for the progress and development of society and towards recognizing the positive contributions of the media and press in promoting gender equality, empowering women and eliminating violence against women and children.
At the same time, the Press Awards are also a forum for journalists and press agencies to share and exchange experiences in promoting gender equality.
The Vice President of the Vietnam Women's Union expressed: "The organizing committee hopes that the works will not only reflect the issues but also propose practical, sustainable solutions, creating positive changes in society.
Let your works not only be articles, reports, or media products, but also messages and voices representing women, girls, and disadvantaged people in society.
Every story, every image, every news can become a powerful tool in changing the thinking and actions of the community."
Emphasizing that the media is a powerful catalyst for change, Ms. Caroline Nyamayamombe, UN Women Representative in Vietnam, shared: "This award aims to recognize the important role of the media in informing and changing the awareness of policy makers and people on issues related to women's empowerment and gender equality."
The UN Women Vietnam Representative also hopes that this award will inspire a new wave of journalism that is creative, empathetic and shares the voice of women, while promoting discussions on gender equality.
Ms. Caroline Nyamayamombe said: "Let's work together to create a media environment that promotes women's empowerment and gender equality in Vietnam. Hopefully, gender equality will become a reality, not just an aspiration."
The 2024 National Journalism Award on Gender Equality is being held in the context of Vietnam actively implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including goal number 5 related to promoting gender equality. At the same time, this is also one of the activities within the strategic partnership framework of the two Central agencies of the Vietnam Women's Union and UN Women to promote a favorable environment for gender equality, women's empowerment and ending gender-based violence against women and girls in Vietnam.
