A week has passed since Eximbank and Techcombank adjusted their deposit interest rates, and no other banks have announced any adjustments to their listed interest rates.
After the first two weeks of October, only 3 banks increased their deposit interest rates: LPBank, Bac A Bank and Eximbank. The market recorded one bank that reduced its interest rate: Techcombank.
Although the deposit interest rates listed by banks remain almost unchanged, there is actually an "undercurrent" among small banks.
After a period of inviting customers to deposit money with interest rates higher than the official listed interest rates, GPBank continues to offer more attractive offers.
Along with placing signs inviting depositors to deposit money with interest rates up to 6.25%/year, recently, some GPBank transaction points in Hanoi continued to display signs inviting depositors to deposit money with interest rates up to 6.3%/year. This is considered the highest interest rate on the market today for regular depositors.
Notably, the highest mobilization interest rate according to GPBank's listed interest rate schedule is 5.85%/year, for online deposits with terms from 13-36 months.
Deposit interest rates listed by GPBank for the remaining terms are as follows: 1-month term 3.2%/year, 2-month term 3.7%/year, 3-month term 3.72%/year, 4-month term 3.74%/year, 5-month term 3.75%/year, 6-month term 5.05%/year, 7-month term 5.15%/year, 8-month term 5.3%/year, 9-month term 5.4%/year and 12-month term 5.75%/year.
Responding to reporters’ questions about the interest rate difference between the bank’s publicly listed interest rate and the interest rate being offered by the bank at transaction points, GPBank staff said that savings interest rates are still being applied according to the interest rate schedule officially listed by the bank. However, some transaction points “arbitrarily” set interest rates higher than the regulations, which will then be submitted to higher levels to “support interest rates” for customers.
Not only GPBank, some small banks also apply similar methods to compete to attract deposits.
In particular, Bac A Bank is also displaying a sign inviting deposits, with the highest interest rate up to 6.05%/year. Meanwhile, the highest bank interest rate officially listed by this bank is only 5.85%/year, applied to deposits with terms from 18-36 months.
PGBank also offers deposit interest rates of up to 6%/year, while the highest announced rate is 5.9%/year, applied to 24-36 month term deposits.
At PVCombank, signs inviting customers to deposit money at an interest rate of 6%/year are being placed at transaction points. The highest interest rate announced is only 5.8%/year, applied to deposits with a term of 18-36 months. A PVCombank employee revealed that depending on the amount of money and the priority customer class, each branch has its own preferential policy, so the actual interest rate can be up to 6%/year.
