The semiconductor industry is being fiercely competed by many powerful countries in the world to gain a leading position, thanks to its market size of hundreds of billions of USD as well as its political importance.
Vietnam is also paying great attention to this field to develop the country in a modern direction, calling for investment from many corporations in the world. Most recently, Hana Micron Vina Company launched the first semiconductor manufacturing project in the North (factory located in Van Trung Industrial Park - Bac Giang province).
Commitment to invest 1 billion USD
Hana Micron Vina is a company that manufactures and processes integrated circuit boards used for mobile phones and other smart electronic products. Currently, the company's total registered investment capital is nearly 600 million USD and its expected revenue is 300 million USD for 2023.
The project complex of this Korean company has a total scale of 66,000 m2. Hana Micron Vina has completed and put factory 1 into production in 2022. On September 16, the company inaugurated and put factory 2 into operation.
Mr. Choi Chang Ho, Chairman of Hana Micron Vina, committed that by 2025, the company plans to increase its total investment to over 1 billion USD. Revenue is expected to reach 800 million USD and create 4,000 jobs for Vietnamese workers.
Hana Micron Vina in Vietnam is also the number one manufacturing base in the group's global business operations, with the workforce recruited in Vietnam expected to account for 70% of the total workforce. The company is committed to training Vietnam's young and talented personnel to become highly skilled human resources in the semiconductor industry.
Global Semiconductor Company
Hana Micron Vina is a subsidiary of the leading semiconductor manufacturer in Korea - Hana Micron. Established in August 2001, the group in the early stages mainly processed domestic products for Samsung and SK Hynix, winning many awards for processing enterprises in Korea.
The South Korean giant quickly expanded beyond its borders, establishing Hana Micron America in the United States in 2006, marking its global expansion strategy. Brazil followed with the arrival of HT Micron in 2010.
Vietnam is the latest name on Hana Micron's export map. In 2016, the group announced the establishment of Hana Micron Vietnam Company (headquartered in Yen Phong Industrial Park - Bac Ninh Province), then established Hana Micron Vina Company (headquartered in Van Trung Industrial Park - Bac Giang Province) in 2019.
To date, this semiconductor group is present in at least four countries: Korea, the US, Brazil and Vietnam, performing many important stages in the global semiconductor industry.
In terms of business operations, Hana Micron's revenue has been growing steadily in recent years thanks to its global expansion strategy. The Group recorded a record revenue of over KRW 894 billion (approximately USD 680 million) in 2022, up 34% from 2021.
The semiconductor business’s net profit fluctuated more, reaching more than 58 billion KRW (about 44 million USD). This figure decreased by 10% compared to 2021 but was still 4 times higher than in 2019.
The group's total assets at the end of 2022 were recorded at over 1,400 billion KRW (over 1 billion USD). The other side of the balance sheet includes total liabilities of 920 billion KRW and equity of 488 billion KRW. This scale shows Hana Micron's potential for rapid global expansion.
Currently, the Korean corporation's main business is providing back-end semiconductor solutions, with processes from production, testing to packaging. The Business Post once assessed that, in terms of sales, Hana Micron is the leading unit in the semiconductor packaging field in Korea.
The company has developed other technologies for laminates (for ICs), conductor frames, wafers for phones, and its electronic products also have outstanding features, helping them become partners with many large enterprises in Korea (such as SK and Samsung) and around the world.
Hana Micron is actively investing in advanced packaging technologies such as SiP (System in Package); TSV; FO-WLP or eWLP, while ensuring the stability of related technologies. The products of this giant are evaluated to have good electrical performance, high quality and competitive price.
