(Dan Tri) - Located at an altitude of over 1,800m above sea level, Ngoc Chien commune (Muong La district, Son La ) has a fresh climate, wild and majestic natural landscape, highlighted by hundreds of houses with po mu roofs.
Ngoc Chien is a highland commune in Muong La district, about 80km from Son La city. This is one of the famous tourist destinations in the Northwest region with poetic scenery and majestic mountains. "Fairyland" is the beautiful word that many tourists give to Ngoc Chien after visiting and experiencing here. To get to Ngoc Chien, you have to go through Sam Sip mountain peak at an altitude of nearly 2,000m above sea level, with 30 bends hidden in the clouds. This wild land is surrounded by mountain ranges, cool in summer, not too cold in winter. In addition to the beautiful natural scenery and fresh, cool climate, it also carries the traditional cultural identity of the ethnic minorities in the highlands. In particular, this place also has hundreds of stilt houses with roofs made of po mu wood that are up to a hundred years old.
The stilt houses with po mu roofs are a typical cultural feature of the ethnic minorities here, many of which are over 100 years old, mainly concentrated in Na Tau and Muong Chien villages. Over time, this characteristic is being preserved and conserved by the people and today has become a highlight in the tourism development of Ngoc Chien. According to the elderly here, making "tiles" from po mu wood is very elaborate. The tiles are not cut by saw, but must be split into panels according to the wood grain, to limit warping. Although the po mu roof is rough and not as flat as a tiled roof, it is very windproof. Ngoc Chien is also known as the land of many works with unique "green" architecture that is simple and close to nature. These are the welcome gates, stone walls throughout the villages, alleys...
The 19 welcome gates of 15 villages in Ngoc Chien are unique works of art rarely seen in other localities. They are made from simple, familiar materials in nature and are made by the people themselves. The Chien stream, more than 10km long, adds to the beauty of the "fairyland" of Ngoc Chien.
People cultivate and catch humpback carp on Chien stream. While in other places farmers only grow rice, in Ngoc Chien, rice fields are also used to raise fish. On average, for every 1,000m2 of rice field, people raise 3kg of carp fry. Humpback carp brings higher economic value than regular carp. Besides the rice fields, sticky rice fields, medicinal plants, timber trees... Ngoc Chien valley also exudes beauty with rose fields. The tourism potential in Ngoc Chien is an advantage for people to develop community tourism associated with new rural construction. This not only contributes to improving life but also creates a solid foundation for people to be more aware of preserving and promoting traditional cultural values of the nation.
