Chess player Tran Tuan Minh won the international chess tournament in Hanoi.

At the end of the International Grandmasters' competition, player Tran Tuan Minh won 6 points after 9 games to rank first. Ranked second and third respectively were Priasmoro Novendra (Indonesia) and Lou Yiping (China) with 5.5 points (Priasmoro Novendra ranked higher due to better secondary index).

The 2023 U12 World Champion Dau Khuong Duy had a quite successful tournament when he ranked 5th with 5 points and was added 9 elo to surpass the 2,400 elo level (before the tournament, Dau Khuong Duy's international elo coefficient was 2,395).

Meanwhile, in the International Master's category, Indonesian player Firman Syah Farid won the championship with 6.5 points; second place was Cu Ivan Travis (Philippines) with 6 points; third place was Duong Vu Anh (5 points).

Notably, with the results of the tournament, player Duong Vu Anh - with the lowest elo coefficient among the participating players, was added 105.2 elo (current international elo coefficient is 2070).

The Hanoi 2024 Grandmaster - International Master Chess Tournament is part of the 2024 Grandmaster - International Master Chess Tournament system, taking place at the Hanoi Old Quarter Cultural Exchange Center (50 Dao Duy Tu Street, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi).

The tournament is organized by the Vietnam Chess Federation in coordination with the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports and the Future Grandmasters Club to obtain international standards (International Grandmaster (GM)/International Master (IM)) for athletes; help athletes improve their international elo coefficient; obtain international referee standards for referees participating in the tournament.

The tournament had the participation of 20 players from 6 countries: India, China, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam.

The competition results will be sent to the World Chess Federation (FIDE) to calculate the standards of International Grandmaster (GM), International Master (IM), FIDE Master (FM) and calculate the international elo coefficient in June 2024.

At the tournament, athletes compete in 2 groups to qualify for International Grandmaster and International Master. The tournament has many International Grandmasters such as Tran Tuan Minh, Priasmoro Novendra (Indonesia), Gomez John Paul (Philippines)... In addition, there are some notable faces in the Vietnamese chess community such as Dau Khuong Duy, Dao Minh Nhat...

Previously, at the Quang Ninh 2024 Grandmaster - International Master Chess Tournament (from May 14 to 19), organized by the Vietnam Chess Federation in coordination with the Department of Culture and Sports of Quang Ninh and the Future Grandmasters Club, there were 2 players achieving the International Grandmaster standard (including Pham Tran Gia Phuc) and 4 players achieving the International Master standard.
