(GLO)- Despite many difficulties, Kong Chro district has made remarkable progress in all areas after 35 years of establishment (May 30, 1988 - May 30, 2023). These proud results are the motivation for the Party Committee, government and ethnic people in the district to continue to strive to overcome difficulties to build Kong Chro to develop quickly, strongly and sustainably.
Proud achievements
Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee Huynh Ngoc An said: When it was first established, Kong Chro faced many difficulties such as backward, fragmented, and small-scale production; very difficult physical facilities, socio-economic infrastructure, transportation, and irrigation; the poverty rate was over 90%; the population was low-educated, and the staff was both lacking and weak in professional expertise...
However, under the leadership of the Party and government over the past 35 years, from a poor and backward district, Kong Chro has gradually overcome difficulties and achieved great achievements in all fields.

Up to now, the appearance from urban to rural areas has been increasingly renewed, people's lives have been significantly improved. In particular, the economic growth rate through the stages has been maintained at a high level, the scale of the economy is increasingly large, the economic structure has shifted positively and in the right direction. In 2022, the total production value increased by 13.65%, exceeding the resolution by 0.04%. The national target program on new rural construction (NTM) has been widely implemented.
By the end of 2020, the district had 1 commune and 3 villages meeting the NTM standards. The One Commune One Product (OCOP) program was also implemented with 4 provincial-level OCOP products. The average poverty rate in the 2015-2020 period decreased by 7.57%/year; by the end of 2022, it decreased by 6.63% (currently 36.69%); people's quality of life has been significantly improved.
Sharing his joy at the changes in his hometown, Mr. Hoang Dinh Dung (village 2, Kong Yang commune) said: In the past, the life of his family as well as the people in the commune faced many difficulties. The reason was that the land was barren and the climate was harsh, so the crops often failed, and there was not enough to eat. Thanks to the State's attention to investing in transport infrastructure, irrigation as well as supporting the conversion of appropriate crop and livestock structures, people's lives have improved day by day.
“For my family, after converting 1.5 hectares of ineffective sugarcane to grow T6 longan and joining the Kong Yang Agricultural and Service Cooperative, we received support in terms of loans for investment in production and cultivation techniques, so crop productivity increased and income increased significantly. In 2022, after deducting investment costs, I earned nearly 200 million VND from T6 longan trees,” Mr. Dung happily said.
Referring to the changes in the locality, Mr. Dao Quoc Dinh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Kong Yang Commune - informed: The rural appearance of the commune is increasingly prosperous, with convenient transportation and more spacious houses. In particular, people have gradually changed their mindset from small-scale, fragmented production to large-scale, concentrated production, applying scientific and technological advances as well as linking to form value chains. Thanks to that, the poverty rate has decreased sharply over the years, from a commune with a poverty rate of over 80% of the population, now down to 27.95%; average income per capita has increased gradually over the years and reached 28.34 million VND in 2022.
Mr. Chu Van Thuan - Chairman of the People's Committee of Kong Chro town said: "In recent years, many inner-city roads have been invested in expanding, upgrading, making sidewalks, lighting, decorative electricity... gradually creating highlights for the city. The economic structure has shifted in the right direction, gradually shifting from agricultural production to trade and services. The economic life of the people has also gradually improved, the average poverty rate has decreased by 5% each year, currently at 35%".
In addition, the district also focuses on and continuously improves the quality of education and training. Up to now, the district has 14/32 schools meeting national standards. People's health care is focused on, and the health sector's facilities are invested and upgraded. The district has 13 communes meeting national health standards. Cultural, sports, tourism, and information and communication activities have all changed positively, contributing to improving the spiritual life of the people.
National defense is strengthened, political security is maintained, social order and safety are ensured. The political system operates synchronously from the district to the grassroots level; the effectiveness and efficiency of state management are constantly improved. In particular, the great national unity bloc is increasingly consolidated, democracy is promoted, people are excited and confident in the leadership and innovation of the Party, in the changes of the homeland and country.
Mobilizing all resources for development investment
Despite its many potentials and advantages, Kong Chro district has not yet fully exploited them to serve socio-economic development. Kong Chro is still a poor district, the educational level of a part of the people is still limited, people's lives are still difficult, production depends on the weather, output is unstable, prices are low... That requires the Party Committee, the government and the ethnic people in the district to continue to unite, strive harder, and together overcome all difficulties to develop.

Chairman of the People's Committee of Kong Chro town said: "With the goal of striving to become a type IV urban area by 2025, we continue to manage the planning well; mobilize all resources to invest in completing urban infrastructure. Along with that, the town focuses on attracting investment in developing high-tech agriculture, especially the trade and service sector". Mr. Dao Quoc Dinh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Kong Yang commune said: "The commune will continue to consolidate and establish production groups in villages and hamlets to guide people in developing production; deploy and replicate highly effective economic development models such as switching to fruit tree planting. At the same time, mobilize all resources to build new rural areas, striving to meet new rural standards by the end of 2025".
According to Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee Huynh Ngoc An: Promoting the tradition of the revolutionary homeland, in the coming time, the Party Committee and People of Kong Chro District are determined to carry out the renovation well, promote the strength of national solidarity, exploit potentials well, mobilize all resources to build infrastructure, develop sustainable economy, improve the efficiency of agricultural production; promote industrial and service development, build new rural areas, civilized urban areas, strongly shift the economic structure towards commodity production as proposed in the Resolution of the 8th District Party Congress. At the same time, promote administrative reform, create a favorable environment to attract investment and encourage economic sectors to develop.
Improve the quality of education and training, take care of people's health; promote cultural, information, sports and environmental protection activities; effectively implement social security policies and sustainably reduce poverty. Focus on solving social issues, improving people's lives, strengthening national defense and security, maintaining order, social safety and rural security; strengthen the prevention and control of all types of crimes. Effectively implement 3 national target programs and focus on budget collection.

Kong Chro district was established on the basis of separation from An Khe district (now An Khe town). At that time, the district had 8 commune-level administrative units, a population of over 17,500 people, a natural area of over 143,000 hectares, and the entire district Party Committee had 370 party members with 20 grassroots party organizations. Up to now, the district has 14 administrative units, a population of over 56,000 people, a total Party Committee of 2,535 party members and 44 grassroots party organizations.
With its efforts, the Party Committee, army and people of Kong Chro district were awarded the first, second and third class Labor Medals by the President; the emulation flag by the Government in 2016 and for many years the flag of the outstanding leading unit in the emulation movements of the province was awarded by the Provincial People's Committee.
