VnExpressVnExpress08/10/2023

Hai Duong Chi Linh maple forest is a free climbing and camping spot, with fresh air and beautiful scenery.

Le Thu Hang, over 30 years old, has traveled to all 63 provinces and cities of Vietnam and more than 10 countries. She recently had a picnic in Hai Duong, sharing her experience of exploring the maple forest.

Chi Linh maple forest is located in Hoang Hoa Tham commune, Chi Linh district, Hai Duong province. The road to Chi Linh maple forest is easy to travel, you can use personal vehicles (both cars and motorbikes) and public transport. If you do not want to drive, take a bus to Sao Do city and then hire a motorbike taxi or taxi to Thanh Mai pagoda. If you use personal vehicles, you can follow Google Maps to the pagoda. Leave your vehicle at the pagoda, then walk into the forest.

This is a spiritual destination so there are no tourist services and no fees. You can park your car for free at the temple. The people are friendly. If you don’t know the way, they are willing to show you the way. There are three areas in this place worth exploring:

Thanh Mai Pagoda

This is a suitable place for those who love quiet space. Surrounding the pagoda is the forest. Right from the way up, the green trees are shady, the air is cool, dispelling the dust of the national highway. The pagoda has steps interspersed with large courtyards. When you reach the highest courtyard, you will see the vast space of Chi Linh. This is the place connecting with Tay Yen Tu mountain range in Bac Giang, creating a majestic space, like in the middle of the mountains, even though it is right in the plains. Below, the yellow color of the rice fields in the ripening season appears, creating a colorful picture.

The highlight of the pagoda is the ancient banyan trees with trunks that are 2-3 people wide to hug. The frangipani flowers fall everywhere, their fragrance creating an atmosphere that is both ancient and pleasant. In addition to the ancient banyan trees, there are many other trees in the pagoda garden, with roots spreading throughout the garden. If we only look at these trees, we can easily mistake them for a primeval forest, a national park, or some long-standing ecological reserve.

Maple forest

After visiting Thanh Mai Pagoda, go up the maple forest and follow the path straight to the top of the mountain. The path is gentle, only steep when nearing the top. With a length of more than 2 km, this is a suitable climbing route for all subjects. Many families choose this as a camping site, allowing children to run freely.

According to locals, at the end of October, Thanh Mai maple forest will turn red, the whole forest at that time "looks like it's covered in vermillion". On the rocks, the paths, everywhere is covered with red leaves. Many people looking at the photos even mistake it for a space in Korea. In other seasons, the maple forest is still beautiful because of the unique appearance of the maple leaves. From every angle, the maple trees have their own unique, delicate, gentle and somewhat lonely features compared to other trees in the forest. In addition to maple trees, Thanh Mai forest also has a wild, natural beauty thanks to climbing plants and moss. Nature here seems to be untouched by humans.

At the top, you will see a beautiful view with interspersed mountains. In the morning or evening, the clouds and smoke make the scene even more romantic. You don't need to go far to hunt clouds, right in Hai Duong there is such a place.

Campsite

There is a camping and barbecue area on the top of the mountain. On weekends, the number of visitors here is usually quite large, most of them go for a picnic during the day. Camping here brings a sense of peace. The scenery of Thanh Mai Pagoda below is in harmony with the beauty of the forest above. Those who want a private space can choose a spot in the middle of the forest, away from the path.

There are almost no shops around Thanh Mai Pagoda. The wind is quite strong on the top of the mountain, so you have to find a sheltered place to cook. You have to pay attention to the weather, because the top is bare and has no trees. If it rains, there is no shelter. You can bring large tarps and sticks, stretch them out before setting up camp and cooking.

Chi Linh maple forest is a peaceful and interesting picnic spot. For those living around Hanoi, this is a place where you can enjoy the mountain air without having to travel far.
