In mid-November, in the fields of Phu Thuy village, Thi Son commune, excavators urgently dug and filled in, completing the main irrigation and drainage canal for the fields of dozens of hectares. For this canal alone, the volume of excavation and filling was over 200 m3. It is known that this main canal has not been dug or filled in for a long time, leading to a lot of sedimentation, narrowing and obstructing the flow.
During this year's intra-field irrigation project, Thi Son Agricultural Service Cooperative (HTXDVNN) has developed a plan to dig and fill 2,500 m3 of soil on both the main type 3 canal and the field irrigation canal. The canals are dredged based on actual capacity to meet crop requirements. The Board of Directors of the Cooperative directs the irrigation work to be done entirely with mechanical machinery to speed up progress and ensure quality. Irrigation work was launched simultaneously throughout the area from the beginning of November. Villages proactively implemented dredging of field canals according to plan. Mr. Do Van Ngoc, Director of Thi Son Agricultural Service Cooperative, said: By the end of November, the canal digging and filling in the area had been basically completed. The Cooperative is completing the remaining volume and repairing some sluices on the canals to prepare for the new crop.
Like Thi Son, other localities in Kim Bang district are also speeding up the progress of internal irrigation. In Nguyen Uy commune, irrigation work was carried out early and completed in November. To carry out internal irrigation work, the Board of Directors of Nguyen Uy Agricultural Service Cooperative inspected and re-evaluated the entire capacity of the canal system. At the same time, they surveyed and built additional canals to meet production requirements in the context of some traffic projects running through the area, dividing the canals... From there, a plan was developed and the irrigation campaign was launched right from the end of October and the beginning of November. Thanks to the early initiative, the volume of irrigation excavation and embankment in Nguyen Uy reached 4,700 m3, exceeding 88% of the plan within about 1 month of implementation.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Quan, Director of Nguyen Uy Agricultural Service Cooperative, the volume of local internal irrigation this year is high mainly in the field canals, which are planned by the villages and mobilized by the people to contribute funds. The effective implementation and increase in the volume of excavated and embanked irrigation soil will help improve irrigation capacity to serve local production, especially in key areas of commercial rice production and the conversion to cucumber and fruit trees (lychee hybrid) with high economic value.

According to the plan, this year's intra-field irrigation project, Kim Bang district plans to fill and dredge 62,532 m3 of soil. Of which, type I and II canals managed by the Irrigation Enterprise will be dug and filled with a volume of 4,576 m3; type III canals and local embankments will be dug and filled with 57,956 m3; at the same time, 85 culverts, siphon dams, 30 pumps and 12 pumping station suction tanks will be repaired. Currently, units and localities in the district are speeding up the implementation progress to ensure the completion of the excavation and filling volume in the shortest time. In order to effectively implement intra-field irrigation projects, meeting the set goals and requirements, Kim Bang district has directed localities to synchronously implement solutions: review and proactively develop plans for intra-field irrigation projects on the basis of balancing capital, human resources and material resources; Focus on dredging, renovating and repairing really necessary works to ensure systematic synchronization from type I and type II canals managed by the district irrigation enterprise to type III canals of the locality; use all mechanical machinery in the process of digging, dredging canals...
Ms. Le Thi Phuong, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Kim Bang district, said: Units and localities in the district are doing a good job of dredging canals. The total volume of work by the end of November reached over 82% of the plan, expected to be completed in early December. This is a favorable condition for the district to develop a plan to get water early for the 2024 spring rice crop when the source on the rivers is at a high level.
In recent years, the district's field production has changed significantly towards a concentrated scale, with goods requiring strict irrigation and drainage services. The district's irrigation system now also serves industrial and urban areas; while the impact of climate change leads to unusual weather patterns such as drought, or heavy, unusual rains... Therefore, Kim Bang district's effective implementation of intra-field irrigation will contribute positively to promoting agricultural production, protecting people's lives and developing the economy in general in the area.
