Checking foot and mouth disease prevention work in Huong Hoa district

According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, as of August 19, in Huong Hoa district, 4 communes and towns including Huong Phung, Huc, Thuan and Lao Bao town had a total of 67 buffaloes and cows infected with the disease; 3 cows died and were buried.

The cause of the epidemic is that people have not properly followed the disease prevention measures according to the instructions of the professional agency (when receiving breeding animals to keep together with family cows, grazing sick cattle with uninfected cattle).

The slow reporting of epidemics by livestock farmers, failure to keep sick cattle in captivity, and failure to properly implement hygiene and disinfection have caused the pathogens to spread widely and persist in the environment for a long time, creating the risk that the epidemic may continue to arise in other localities. The source of vaccines supported by the FMD and Lumpy Skin Disease Program for cattle this year is not yet available, so the entire herd of cattle and buffaloes of livestock households in the district has not been vaccinated with the above two vaccines.

As soon as there is information about the epidemic, the People's Committee of Huong Hoa district coordinates with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine to inspect and work with communes with the epidemic to implement preventive measures according to regulations. Count and inspect livestock in the area; inform people about the epidemic situation to participate in prevention activities; isolate sick livestock, guide the treatment of sick livestock; provide chemicals to disinfect livestock areas, barns, etc.

Urgently implement vaccination against FMD and lumpy skin disease for cattle and buffalo. Provide chemicals from the provincial source to support localities to organize environmental disinfection and disease prevention. Assign specialized staff to stay in the area to direct, monitor the situation, guide disease prevention and treatment of sick livestock...

Ba Long commune, Dakrong district also had FMD outbreak.

Also according to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, as of August 19, 2024, in addition to 4 communes and towns of Huong Hoa district, in Dakrong district, FMD also occurred with 32 buffaloes and cows of 12 households in 3 villages of Ba Long commune, including: Ha Luong, Da Noi, Ta Lang were infected. In the face of the above situation, the leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinated with units and local authorities to inspect the actual situation to direct and guide epidemic prevention measures. At the same time, directed the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine to continue to organize inspections and guide localities to proactively deploy prevention and control measures, promptly contain, and prevent the disease from spreading widely.

Concluding after the field inspection, the Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong requested Huong Hoa district to strictly implement the instructions of the Provincial People's Committee in Official Dispatch No. 3664/UBND-KT dated August 10, 2024 on urgently directing, drastically and synchronously implementing measures to prevent FMD. Mobilize all resources to urgently organize drastic and synchronous implementation of measures to quickly control and suppress outbreaks, preventing the spread of the disease.

In particular, prioritize the organization of FMD vaccination to surround the epidemic area according to the instructions of the veterinary agency. Proactively arrange funds for epidemic prevention, especially funds for purchasing vaccines to immediately have FMD vaccines to deploy vaccination to surround the epidemic area in the area. Strictly manage the epidemic area; temporarily stop buying, selling, and slaughtering livestock susceptible to FMD until receiving advice from specialized agencies. When livestock die from FMD, they must be destroyed according to regulations, not allowed to be left to livestock owners to destroy or bury their livestock...

The Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also directed relevant departments and branches to increase professional staff to support Huong Hoa district in implementing epidemic prevention measures and methods of treating sick livestock. Provide timely supplies, chemicals, and vaccines so that the locality can implement vaccination on schedule and organize the handling of outbreaks as soon as they arise. At the same time, coordinate with media agencies and organizations to propagate proactive measures to prevent epidemics and methods of treating sick livestock so that people know and implement them.
