Southern HCMC area upgraded when phase 1 of flood prevention project completed

Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí27/06/2024

In mid-May, Ho Chi Minh City was cooled down after a series of unusually hot and dry days. However, heavy rains lasting for hours over a large area caused deep flooding on many roads and streets.

Not only in Ho Chi Minh City, flooding caused by high tides and heavy rains is still a difficult problem for many large cities. To solve this situation, Ho Chi Minh City requires accelerating the disbursement of public investment capital, accelerating the completion of the project "Solving flooding caused by tides considering climate change" with a total investment of 10,000 billion VND, promoting phase 1 to completion and put into use in 2024.

In phase 1, the project will build 6 large tidal control sluices: Muong Chuoi, Phu Xuan, Tan Thuan, Ben Nghe, Phu Dinh and Cay Kho, with a sluice width of 40-160m. The construction locations of the sluices are in District 1, District 4, District 7, District 8, Binh Chanh District and Nha Be District.

After the project is completed and put into operation, the tide gates will be synchronized with an advanced system and a network of canal water level monitoring of 15 data collection points located throughout the rivers and canals of Ho Chi Minh City. Through that network, the valve gate operating system will automatically open and close when the water level is at a warning level.

According to records, the Tan Thuan culvert project (District 7 connecting District 4) has basically completed 93% of the work volume, including the completion of the construction of pillars and gates; the boat lock has been completed and mechanical and hydraulic installation has been deployed; the upstream and downstream culvert reinforcement area, and the riverbed stone paving. The Phu Xuan culvert project (Nha Be district connecting District 7) has also reached 90% of the progress; Muong Chuoi culvert (Nha Be district) - the largest culvert of the 6 culverts of the project has been completed 93%.

When Tan Thuan, Phu Xuan, and Muong Chuoi sluices are put into operation, the amount of water from the Saigon River flowing into District 7 and Nha Be through smaller branches will be controlled, limiting flooding caused by tides (Photo: Khai Hoan Prime).

In addition, the Te Canal embankment along Tran Xuan Soan Street (District 7) is also being accelerated. This project contributes to thoroughly solving the problem of landslides, subsidence and damage, ensuring the safety of people while renewing the landscape and appearance of the area.

As an area with a rich river system, the overall socio-economic situation of South Saigon is somewhat affected by high tides and deep flooding. Accordingly, when the traffic infrastructure is increasingly complete, the flooding problem is thoroughly resolved, South Saigon has more advantages to become the center of attracting investment capital, an ideal residential choice for a large number of residents.

Anticipating the wave of population expansion to suburban areas, the Khai Hoan Prime riverside resort apartment project is located on the main road Le Van Luong, adjacent to Phu My Hung urban area, a residential destination for those who want to return to sustainable natural values but not too far from the center and modern, classy amenities.

Khai Hoan Prime also benefits from the tidal flood prevention project in District 7, Nha Be when it is located between two large tidal control sluices, Phu Xuan sluice and Muong Chuoi sluice, with a completion progress of nearly 93%, promising to limit tidal flooding by the end of 2024 when put into operation. Thanks to that, residents of the project can easily move, live conveniently and ensure safety during the rainy season and high tides.

According to the project developer, Khai Hoan Prime focuses on creating a sustainable green lifestyle with a construction density of only 21% for all 3 towers, prioritizing most of the area for green space and modern facilities to take care of the physical and mental health of residents such as riverside walking paths, resort-standard mineral salt swimming pools, jacuzzis, children's play areas, learning at the youth talent development training center, event organization area and riverside barbecue garden, light square...

The project is developed by Khai Hoan Land Group, currently introducing phase 3 with many preferential policies, legal advantages, ensuring construction progress and expected handover in the fourth quarter of 2025.
