The story of the early days of preserving artifacts and landscapes to establish the President Ho Chi Minh Relic Site at the Presidential Palace; preserving and operating it for the past 55 years was shared at the scientific conference "55 days since Uncle Ho was gone, 55 years of preserving and promoting the value of the President Ho Chi Minh Relic Site at the Presidential Palace" on June 18, in Hanoi.

Many scientists, cultural researchers and people who used to work at the relic site attended and discussed contents such as: the value of Ho Chi Minh's heritage in the Presidential Palace relic site, the work of preserving Ho Chi Minh's heritage in the relic site over the past 55 years, the importance of the Ho Chi Minh Relic Site at the Presidential Palace in promoting the value of Ho Chi Minh's heritage...

How was the President Ho Chi Minh relic site born?

Ms. Le Thi Phuong - Director of the President Ho Chi Minh Relic Site at the Presidential Palace - said: Immediately after President Ho Chi Minh passed away, the Politburo issued a decision to protect, preserve, and keep intact the place where he lived and worked at the Presidential Palace so that this sacred area could become a historical relic site about President Ho Chi Minh and is now the President Ho Chi Minh Relic Site at the Presidential Palace (Relic Site).

The decision was made with infinite gratitude to the nation's genius leader, in accordance with the wishes of the entire Party, the entire army and the entire people, especially the compatriots and soldiers in the South who are fighting day and night heroically and sacrificing to unify the country.

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong said that the staff of the President's Office at that time were still called by the code name "Office 41" or "CQ 41", and worked day and night to preserve and maintain the best relics and souvenirs of President Ho Chi Minh at the Presidential Palace.

Thanks to that, the relic site of Uncle Ho at the Presidential Palace is still preserved in the same state as when Uncle Ho lived here for 15 years.

The door is still open every day to welcome domestic and international delegations to visit his residence and workplace at the Presidential Palace; the furniture in the house is still neatly arranged and clean.

The entire relic, artifacts, garden, and surrounding fence related to the life and career of President Ho Chi Minh during the 15 years he lived in the Presidential Palace area were mapped out as "Area 2-9-1969"; photos were taken of the current status (September 16, 1969), recorded, statistically registered in the relic inventory book.

Ms. Le Thi Phuong said that the President Ho Chi Minh Relic Complex at the Presidential Palace includes 13 relics: the Presidential Palace, house 54, stilt house, Politburo meeting room, house 67, kitchen A, kitchen B, the house where Uncle signed the decree, bunker H66, bunker D1...

And 1,738 documents and artifacts from the relic houses; outdoor relics such as fish ponds, flower trellis of the Presidential Palace, mango road, Ho Chi Minh trail, wooden bridge across the pond...

An additional 50 relic trees are trees that Uncle Ho brought back to plant or were donated by organizations and individuals in localities or abroad and that Uncle Ho personally took care of.

All relics, documents and artifacts of President Ho Chi Minh are still preserved intact as they were when he lived and worked.

Open to visitors 365 days a year, welcoming nearly 90 million visitors

The relic site is where Uncle Ho lived and worked, so it has its own unique characteristics. The conservation work of this relic site is carried out in the condition of an open warehouse, both to preserve and promote its value.

Located in the space of Ba Dinh historical and cultural relic cluster, the relic site attracts a large number of domestic and international visitors.

Therefore, relics, documents and artifacts are always under direct pressure from the natural climate environment and indirect influence from human factors. These are the difficulties and challenges of the Relic Site in preserving, conserving intact and promoting Uncle Ho's heritage.

Over the past 55 years, generations of cadres of the Relic Site have not been afraid of difficulties, performing well the task of scientific research, preserving and maintaining in the best possible way the residence and workplace of President Ho Chi Minh at the Presidential Palace.

The relic site is open to visitors 365 days a year.

Over the past 55 years, the relic site has welcomed nearly 90 million visitors from all over the country and from about 160 countries and territories around the world. On the occasions of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday and National Day, the relic site welcomes tens of thousands of visitors every day.

Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong affirmed that this is a great school for all generations of Vietnamese people to come to study and learn Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style, a place where the sentiments of the Vietnamese people and international friends converge, and a "destination" in the diplomatic relations of the Party and State.

With its special historical, political, cultural, scientific value and significance, and the intact state of the Relic Site, on August 12, 2009, the President Ho Chi Minh Relic Site at the Presidential Palace was one of 10 relics that the Prime Minister signed a decision to rank as a special national site in the first phase.
