The land planned to build a primary school at Binh Hung Hoa cemetery has been completed and the graves are overgrown with grass.
Having to take her child to exercise in the park of an apartment building near her house for many years, Ms. Kim Yen could not hide her emotions when talking about her desire to wait for the park and school to be built at Binh Hung Hoa cemetery.
Mrs. Yen’s house is on Binh Long Street. Although the house is in Binh Tan District, her 5th grade child goes to Tan Phu every day to study. She and her family are very happy to know that there will be a primary and secondary school next to their house.
Not only Ms. Yen, most households living near Binh Hung Hoa cemetery are excited and happy when the "dark" scene for decades is now renovated and planned into a place to foster the future for their children and grandchildren.
Previously, at the 10th session of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council in July, Chairman of Binh Tan District People's Committee Nguyen Minh Nhut said that the public investment target for the 2020-2025 period of Binh Tan District is to focus on school projects for students.
The district has developed a project to implement public investment in schools, aiming to build 700-1,000 classrooms by 2025. To date, Ho Chi Minh City has allocated capital for 23 schools with 729 classrooms, and the locality has completed the construction of 7 schools with 235 classrooms.
It is expected that in 2025 the district will continue to invest in 16 schools.
Among the school projects planned for investment in 2025, two schools will be built on the land after the relocation of Binh Hung Hoa cemetery. “It is expected that the district will complete the documents by the end of this year, start construction of the two schools early next year and complete them by the end of 2025,” said the chairman of the Binh Tan District People’s Committee.
Tuoi Tre Online recorded the current status of the land planned to build a school at Binh Hung Hoa cemetery:
Binh Tan District plans to build a primary school with 30 classrooms and a secondary school with 41 classrooms.
Construction location of Tran Dai Nghia Primary School is towards the intersection of Tan Thang and Binh Long streets (Binh Tan district).
The crematorium is still operating next to the land planned to build an elementary school. However, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong has directed the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to coordinate with Binh Tan District to propose a relocation.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Tan District said that after relocation, Binh Hung Hoa cemetery will have 40 hectares of vacant land. The previous planning was not to build a school but a commercial center. Later, the district proposed to adjust the planning to build two more schools.
The project to build a secondary school with 41 classrooms is located on the land where the second phase of grave excavation is being carried out. The grave excavation has not yet been completed. The project is expected to start construction in early 2025 at the earliest, along with the primary school, after the relocation of the graves is completed.
Grave excavation is concentrated at Binh Hung Hoa cemetery phase 1 with nearly 1,800 graves.
