Ambassador Chen Xu, Head of the Chinese Mission in Geneva, introduced the draft resolution.

The initiative was jointly submitted by China, Denmark, France, Kenya and Mexico and received the support of 112 countries as co-sponsors.

Nearly 30 years ago, the Fourth World Conference on Women (1995) adopted the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. These two documents outlined the obstacles on the path to achieving women's equality alongside men, and affirmed the commitments and determination of governments and international organizations to use all means to achieve the goals of equality, development and peace for the advancement of women.

The world conferences on women organized by the United Nations are great international events for the political life of the whole world, especially for women. Therefore, the issue of women's liberation and advancement is a global issue.

Speaking at the 57th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Ambassador Chen Xu acknowledged the significant progress in the social status of women over the past three decades, but also stressed that challenges remain in fully realizing the goals of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.

The new UN Human Rights Council resolution aims to restore the spirit of the declaration, reflecting the shared ambition to promote gender equality and strengthen international cooperation in addressing these persistent challenges.

During the adoption of the resolution, representatives from France, Finland, Gambia, Sudan, Dominican Republic, Chile, Argentina and Japan affirmed that the spirit of the declaration will continue to guide global efforts to promote and protect women's rights.

In addition, China also proposed to host the Global Leaders' Meeting on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment in 2025, marking the 30th anniversary of the 4th World Conference on Women.
