On the afternoon of April 10, at the headquarters of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), the Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) held a conference, with the participation of 24/25 professional clubs.

The competition plan for the 2024-2025 season, draft regulations and some issues related to organization were presented by Mr. Nguyen Minh Ngoc, General Director of VPF.

V-League is temporarily suspended to serve the Vietnam U.23 team

“According to the plan, the 2023-2024 season will end in mid-July 2024, and the 2024-2025 season is expected to begin soon after that, at the end of August 2024. VPF hopes to continue to receive the support, consensus, sharing, and responsible cooperation from the clubs, all together overcoming challenges, and starting to implement the best preparation plans for the new season. Based on the comments, VPF will be responsible for receiving and synthesizing to continue to perfect the content and implement it in the upcoming season,” said Mr. Ngoc.

The issue that most club representatives are concerned about is the match schedule. In the 2024-2025 season, in addition to the 5 FIFA Days breaks according to regulations, each lasting about 2 weeks, there is also a break for the national team to compete in the AFF Cup 2024 (right after the FIFA Days in December). The total V-League break for the national team is 116 days.

In addition, the V-League is not affected when the youth teams gather and compete. This is very important information, which can be said to be revolutionary for Vietnamese football. Currently, the V-League 2023 - 2024 is temporarily suspended to make way for the Vietnam U.23 team to participate in the U.23 Asian Cup. This makes some clubs complain. But from next season, even when the U.23 team gathers to serve international tournaments, the V-League will still proceed normally.

According to the time frame approved by VFF, the 2024-2025 season is expected to start in mid-August 2024 and end in late June 2025. The tournament timeframe after deducting breaks is 217 days. With this time, the scheduling of the rounds can be 24/26 rounds taking place on weekends, ensuring the time between each round and creating good conditions for the audience to come to the stadium to watch and cheer on the teams.

However, at the conference, representatives of some clubs said that the preparation time for the new season was too short, leading to the clubs not being able to ensure their expertise and have the best preparation for the new season. 13/13 participating V-League clubs (The Cong Viettel Club was absent) voted to agree to the proposal to postpone the opening of the new season to September.

This means that there will be a number of rounds that the clubs will have to compete at a high density to meet the time limit for the 2024-2025 season ending at the end of June 2025. After the conference, VPF Company will send a document to each club in the V-League to collect opinions, summarize and send a proposal to the VFF Executive Committee on changing the time frame for the 2024-2025 season.
