The construction of Metro Line 2 is divided into 2 phases. It is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2030 and 2 years for warranty work.
Metro Line 2 has a total length of 11,042 km, of which the underground section is about 9,091 km long, the elevated, transitional and depot approach sections are about 1,951 km long. The starting point is at Ben Thanh station (District 1), the end point is at Tham Luong depot (District 12), including 9 underground stations, 1 elevated station and 1 depot providing and installing service equipment systems such as locomotives, carriages, electromechanical systems, information, signals, control, and automatic ticketing.

The project was approved for adjustment by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee in Decision No. 4880/QD-UBND dated November 14, 2019, with a total investment of VND 47,890.84 billion. Of which, the ODA capital structure is VND 37,486.97 billion, and counterpart capital is VND 10,403.87 billion.
Mr. Nguyen Quoc Hien, Deputy Head of the Urban Railway Management Board, said that the site clearance work for the entire project has reached 86.69% so far, of which 4/6 districts including districts 1, 10, 12, Tan Binh and Tan Phu have reached 100%.
Some of the problems are the cases in District 3 (66 cases) related to compensation prices. However, in April, the Chairman of the City People's Committee established a working group to advise on resolving these difficulties and problems. Currently, relevant agencies are focusing on handling the problem to ensure the completion of all site clearance work for the project by the end of 2023.

According to Mr. Hien, the construction work to relocate the project's technical infrastructure was carried out over a period of 20 non-consecutive months at 12 locations along metro line 2 (9 underground station locations, 2 open-cut sections and 1 elevated station).
The construction process is divided into 2 main construction phases.
Phase 1, construction of water supply and drainage system; high voltage power (110kV) is arranged once in a 5m corridor on both sides of the underground station, the elevated station and temporary relocation of electrical works (medium voltage and low voltage), telecommunication works also in this 5m corridor.
Phase 2 of construction involves permanently relocating underground electrical works (medium and low voltage), telecommunications works into underground technical trenches arranged on the cover/top of underground stations to ensure compatibility with the design, modern urban landscape, all technical infrastructure works are underground.
Metro Line 2 (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong) passes through 6 districts: 1, 3, 10, 12, Tan Binh, Tan Phu. The total project area to be recovered is more than 251,000 m2, with 603 affected cases.
