Science shows that bathing is very good for health

Scientists call this new bathing method "grandmother method". The reason it is called "grandmother method" is because when children take a bath, grandmothers in many families often tell them to "rub behind the ears, belly button" and other hard-to-reach places.

It is hypothesized that these areas are often not given proper attention, thus still containing dirt and bacteria that are not good for health after bathing.

The way to clean your body when bathing is to use the "grandmother method"

Now, scientists from the George Washington University Institute of Biology (USA) have studied the skin microbiome in healthy people, focusing on skin areas such as the middle of the arms and areas that are often forgotten when bathing such as the navel and behind the ears.

Dr Keith Crandall, director of the George Washington University Biology Institute, claims his grandmother always told him to “rub behind your ears, between your toes and your belly button,” according to Express .

Keith Crandall speculates that these areas may harbor more bacteria than other areas of the body because they are often overlooked during bathing.

The team, led by Keith Crandall, took skin microbiome samples from the calves, forearms, behind the ears, between the toes, and navels of 129 college students. They sequenced the DNA in these skin microbiome samples, comparing the oily areas that were missed with samples from other areas.

The results found that areas that were cleaned more frequently had a much more diverse microbiome and contained more healthy bacteria than areas that were neglected, according to Express.

Always remember to scrub behind your ears, between your toes and your belly button when you shower.

According to the research team, dry skin areas (arms and calves) are more uniform, richer, and functionally distinct from oily (behind the ears) and moist (navel and between the toes) skin areas.

Within skin regions, bacterial richness, uniformity, and diversity also varied significantly, suggesting that skin bacterial stability may be region-dependent, they added.

The skin microbiome is made up of bacteria that can be beneficial and harmful to the body.

If the balance is tipped towards harmful bacteria, it can lead to conditions like eczema or acne, says Dr Crandall, according to Express.
